2007 Brady lol

and his numbers after 10 games were

250/338
74.0 completion%
3,059 passing yards
9.1 yards per attempt
38 passing touchdowns
4 interceptions
134.0 passer rating
Brady’s season & first 8 games were obviously otherworldly, but he didn’t clear the 75% completion mark as the post indicates.

Other QB's have stud Receivers/TE's, and RB's at their disposal. The front office needs to find these types of guys for Maye.

This is assuming Maye will be a top 10 QB or so moving forward.
Imagine Maye with a Johnathon Taylor & Michael Pittman, Tyler Warren & Josh Downs, or the weapons the Packers have. Sometimes I am so jealous of other team’s weapons. Hell Denver has players WE should’ve drafted.
Brady never seemed surprised by his success, even early on. Neither does Maye. He knows he is good and just waiting for the rest of the world to realize it.
yet he’s humble about everything. And always does and says the right things. It’s a combo of great talent and a great personality.

My question is, who fixed Drake Maye? He was spraying balls all over the field, bad footwork and sometimes not to accurate. Now he's fixed. That simple, year 2 jump?

Wonder where this Maye stretch ranks over the 1st 8 games vs the Brady era.
Brady with the Patriots had 8 seasons where he had a passer rating of >=100 across the first 8 games of a season (he tacked on 2 more with the Bucs). In three of those seasons he went over 110:

2007: 74.2% completion, 2431 yards, 30 TDs, 2 INTs, 136.2 rating (sacked 8 times for a loss of 44 yards)
2015: 68.6% completion, 2709 yards, 22 TDs, 2 INTs, 113.5 rating (sacked 18 times for a loss of 105 yards)
2016: 68.9% completion, 2470 yards, 19 TDs, 1 INT, 113.1 rating (sacked 11 times for a loss of 62 yards)

Maye this season is at 75.2% completion, 2026 yards, 15 TDs, 3 INTs, 118.7 rating while having been sacked 28 times for a loss of 114 yards.

Blasphemy!! and Brady had Elite weapons across the Board.

If only they had picked Marvin Harrison Jr. you build a team around a Wide Receiver, and he's generational.

Ian, could you please re open the threads leading up to the 2024 Draft? I have some reading about Joe Alt, Marvin Harrison Jr. JI McCarthy, and taking the picks I need to do.

Nope. What they need to do is continue building a great OL, and defense. You can't play better than Maye is playing right now, but he needs better protection, and a lockdown defense. The good numbers the defense is putting up right now won't hold up in the playoffs.

He had a terrible Offensive line last year. He also had a below average OC. Simple as that.
Yeah, he's gotten a little better as he learns NFL defenses and what he can and cannot do compared to college, but his overall mechanics have not notably changed.

Spraying the ball? Up until the Bills game last year he led the league in accuracy of passes in the advance analytics. He led the entire NFL in accuracy in 2024 for most of the year.

As the article below explains,

While generally it’s preferable to have more of your throws come with your feet set, once you remove the effect of pressure there actually isn’t so much of an advantage. Quarterbacks can make it work throwing off-platform more than average if they have enough athleticism to threaten the defense and the arm talent to make up for the lack of consistent footwork

EXACTLY!

Until just recently the biggest knock on most of the Patriots young players has been they were unproven. So they were assumed to be poor and inadequate.

Just maybe those assumptions were poor and inadequate, not the players.

The problem is that a significant number of fans have no patience at all. If a player isn't balling out 5-6 games into their rookie season they auck , they are busts, and the Patriots should get rid of them. I have said this repeatedly, but there is no minor league in football, it's sink or swim, when most players actually need time and good pro coaching to even come close to reaching their potential. We are fortunate however, as Vrabel believes that developing your players is critical to their success, and that is going to pay off big time for them.

He didn’t really have much coaching last year. I think it’s as simple as he was given an OC who knew what he was doing. Mcdaniels isn’t perfect but he’s light years ahead of AVP.

I agree

The kid makes it look easy.

Hopefully he'll cut way down on his running. For a kid who played baseball he doesn't have a very good slide.

He did not need that much fixing, he was a baller at UNC prior to his last year. He had fools leading the team last year. Just go listen to Mayo talk about him in the off season. Vomit inducing stuff. Then a terrible oline assembled for him. We could have destroyed him vice fix him. He needed tuning.

since you must’ve missed it, here’s the link to Kurt Warner's analysis of the Titans game where he points out how often Maye’s performance was “one and run”, taking one read than tucking the ball away and running. Seems Kurt thinks he had someone else open and enough time to get the ball to them. In other words the reason Drake was running wasn’t his OL.

I take anything Warner says about the Pats with a grain of salt.
Warner, like many other ex-players, has been a victim of the Pats' success.
