Drake Maye has arrived . . .

Drake Mayes passer rating is higher than 2007 Tom Brady
That is a wild, wild sentence. I did not see this coming. Ever, let alone year two.

I am enjoying this immensely but still trying to remain cautious and restrained about predicting the future. But the facts are getting increasingly interesting.

Brady never seemed surprised by his success, even early on. Neither does Maye. He knows he is good and just waiting for the rest of the world to realize it.

I know this was said in jest, but prompted me to look up what Brady's rating was across the first 8 games of the 2007 season:

30 TDs, 2 INTs, 74.2% completion, 2431 yards, 136.2 rating

Mind-boggling.
It wasn’t said in jest. Mayes passer rating is higher than Brady’s 2007

If the Pats get the #1 seed, Maye will get named an All Pro. At worst, he may get a Pro Bowl nod.

did he have an incompletion in the secong half?

Maybe the weapons are better than you think.
EXACTLY!

Until just recently the biggest knock on most of the Patriots young players has been they were unproven. So they were assumed to be poor and inadequate.

Just maybe those assumptions were poor and inadequate, not the players.

Add in his line isn’t exactly giving him the most time, and that’s what makes his performance mind boggling. Average weapons and so-so line play, and he produces every game. You see him running for his life on so many pass plays, and he either steps up in the pocket, or rolls out, or runs.
since you must’ve missed it, here’s the link to Kurt Warner's analysis of the Titans game where he points out how often Maye’s performance was “one and run”, taking one read than tucking the ball away and running. Seems Kurt thinks he had someone else open and enough time to get the ball to them. In other words the reason Drake was running wasn’t his OL.

it would be the most Bears thing ever if Williams winds up being the 3rd best QB of the Williams/Daniels/Maye picks

Maye was considered somewhat raw coming into the league. He's on his second coordinator in his 2nd year. I think the one and run will lessen over time as he gains more continuity with McD. I think it's a product of not being comfortable yet with his backside progressions and also his instinctive nature of being a good runner and seeing a hole in the pocket and attacking it instead of like Kurt said, "stepping up and settling." which Brady was so good at.

I do have to say a couple of his best throws was early in the first quarter at the 20 yard line to Stevenson running a hard slant. He looks left, then comes back to the right to hit stevenson. The second one was the seam route to hooper for a big gain. He looks left then towards the middle to make an accurate throw for a completion. Once that becomes a thing consistently, watch out.

2007 Brady lol

and his numbers after 10 games were

250/338
74.0 completion%
3,059 passing yards
9.1 yards per attempt
38 passing touchdowns
4 interceptions
134.0 passer rating

I don't like Warner's criticism of Maye leaving big plays out there. Maye has to play with an accelerated clock in his head. He has shown the ability to make deep plays with ease but overly trusting this line will lead to strip sacks etc.

There is always room for improvement but Maye is playing at an elite level and most qbs would fail if they had to step into his shoes right now. A shaky line and little support from the running game.
