Drake Maye has arrived . . .

I think the whole running too soon thing is accurate and overblown. Titans played a number of man coverages which opens up the field for scrambles. He scrambled 8 times, a season high. Against Buffalo was only 2. It's not like he's been doing this all year at that high a level.

He has 44 rushing attempts this year, Mahomes has 42, Allen has 46 with 1 less game. He's running about the same as similar QB's and I bet there are guys that come open when the others scramble as well.

I think the issue is not the decision to run, it's the trying for extra yards at times when he should slide. However, he has 16 first downs on runs, so sometimes sliding is not an option.

Some of the video noting open guys is accurate but at least half were overblown. The play he got hurt on, he stepped up in pocket, the Defender was 5 yards from him and nobody between him and Maye. If he stops, looks up and no receiver is open, he is sacked. If he could have beaten the 1 guy to the sideline he had a 20-yard gain. He can't assume someone's going to be open and take a 50% chance at a sack when he sees all this open field around 1 defender. Once the defender locked on, he should have slid down, taken the 2 yards instead of trying to stiff arm for 2-3 extra yards.

That being said there were a few plays he should have had a little more patience.
Something I think he'll get better at the more experience he gets.
Jayden Daniels runs at almost twice the clip of these QB's but since he's not a great passer he has to.
Maye is a great passer, so he needs to improve on protecting himself and taking less yards and, once in a while, throwing it away before taking on a defender. Experience should help with that.
Just hope he learns it before he gets knocked out of another game.
I agree with you but there is a third option which is throw the ball in the dirt. I call it the Brady play especially in games we don’t need him to be a hero. Against the Titans was one of those games. BB maybe has become a lot things lately but this was his point about Maye. I am glad this conversation is out there now to hopefully get to him. Josh or Vrable needs to have the longevity in league conversation with him asap.

The best part was when Jete fan Rich Eisen said, "He went 21 for 23 AND he left a lot of lay ups on the field???".

As per warner , he left a lot of easy short throws he didnt take

It's an interesting place we find ourselves.

I think it's pretty normal for a young QB to bail out to the run more than a guy like Warner who had years in arena etc before he hit the NFL.

I agree coaches should work on him to recognize the lay ups better, but not running can lead to taking more hits in the pocket and sacks too.

I think Drake is showing that he's on a tremendous growth spurt right now, and I hope he continues to get better and better.

He's already one of the best deep ball throwers in the league, not another dink-and-dunk artist.

Bottom line is I don't want to see some of his better qualities coached out of him.

Let Drake Cook!

But for now the kid plays lights out and I dont see nothing to complain about.

I’m not thinking complaints, I’m thinking opportunities for even more. It’s exciting watching a QB play at this level while still uuon the part of the learning curve where you can see him growing game by game.

JT O'Sullivan throws some shade on Drake Maye's Titans performance in his new QB School vlog.

Says Drake has some open receivers but chooses to run after the first read in some situations. Seems valid.

I really look forward to this clip every week. I think it should have its own thread so no one misses it. @Ian is that possible as a content post? O'Sullivan does a great job of making sense of a lot of the offense and can be critical while being informative.

Nice to know that there is STILL a lot of room to grow for Drake. I love his fearlessness, but some of those "tight window throws" are scary, so little margin for error so far down the field

Ok, then we can always trade for Mac Jones so we don't have to worry about making those deep throws any more...

His deep game is a skill that should be appreciated and nurtured, IMO. We don't want a guy afraid to make those throws.

If the defense fears the deep ball then we get more short yardage opportunities.

He needs to be very aware this week with Garrett near him. Wonder if the plan is to double him.

Drake Maye-nia has arrived.
It really has. As of right now it seems like other nfl fans are in the beginning stages of grief.

I see a lot of "poor pats fans had to wait a whole 5 years" narrative but it's mostly good hearted so far. So far.....

Again I wanna say i was wrong about mcdaniels coming back. But!!!!! I did just see a snippet that vrabel hired coaches that Josh hadn't worked with so they could ensure the offense wasn't too complex.

That was by far my biggest issue with hom coming back. He must be amped to have a young great qb to work with. He must be so glad he left the colts!

Both of the QBs that helped us get Maye are now his backups. The irony…

I can never take Orlovsky seriously, he went to Ansonia public schools...
He got his job because he's part of the Manning clan. His dad was best man at Archie Manning's wedding.

Sports commentating is one of the easiest things in the world to do.

That's why it's nonsensical to be complaining about moving a few spots down or up in the draft. It's a crap shoot.

The HOF is chock full of QBs who were drafted after other QBs. Tom Brady isn't the only one.

Mayo going for the win at the end of the season actually gave us the better QB. Thanks Jerod.

Mayo’s win had nothing to do with Drake. That was all BB’s cluster fudge in 2023. Mayo gave us Campbell.
