Dotson to eagles. Wake up Wolfe

Are we really getting upset that the Pats didn't trade for an overdrafted first round bust? I wouldn't trade a third and two sevenths rounders for Dotson and a fifth rounder. I would rather keep the third.

If he was anything special, why would the Commanders trade him especially to a division rival? The Commanders are definitely not stacked at WR.

So we don’t want to get players and try to win until we have his players? Do you not see the illogic in that.

Elite, proven wideouts aren't coming here year 1 of a new regime rebuild with a JAG QB and an unproven rookie R1 pick and a longshot R6 guy. Proven talent is going to go somewhere where they know they can either 1) win 2) get them the ball consistently or 3) both.
Are you really telling me that when last season ended and you considered what you hoped would happen this off season, they outdid what you hoped for?
I am saying I am satisfied they made a run a Ridley and Aiyuk and got out when they did. I don't believe those players are overpay types.

Deep how?
Who is the wr1, wr2, wr3, wr4, wr5, wr6 and which of them are better than what other teams have at that slot?

Which one deserves to be higher but is held back by the talent keeping them off the field?

1.) I have our WR's ranked as follows:

Kendrick Bourne (if he is as good as he was before the ACL tear....he might be our best WR)
Pop Douglas (our slot WR that is actually our best WR)
Jaylnn Polk (our best rookie WR)
Tyquan Thorton (he appears to be working with the starters)
K.J. Osborn (I think this is where we are too deep. I feel that his veteran presence takes reps away from Polk/Baker).
Javon Baker (he will stick because we burned a 4th and he offers promise)
Kayshon Boutte (The kid has been making a case to stick around...not sure if it will be enough)
Jalen Reagor (he can return kicks which is always a bonus)
David Wallis (another potential returner)

This is where I rank all of the WR's we have now (except for Kawaan Baker, JaQue Jackson, and the new guy from the Browns)...they are likely gone by this time next week or on the PS.

2.) Assuming 100% health:

WR1 (Big bodied): Bourne
WR2 (Take the top off the D): Thorton
WR3 (Slot): Douglas
WR4: Polk

To be honest...Bourne is a "WR2" at best. So, if we were to add an elite #1...the entire WR group would slide down one spot except for Pop Douglas who I want in the slot.

3.) Compared to an average NFL team:

We are lacking at WR#1. Pop Douglas is pretty good for a slot receiver...he ain't no Wes Welker YET though...but an acceptable slot starter, IMO. #2...we have many guys who could be #2 WR's in the NFL (Thorton, Osborn, Polk, Baker). And obviously we are competitive at WR#4, WR#5, and even WR#6.

============

Point here being that Dohston doesn't move the needle for us. I'd rather keep the extra 3rd we now have...that could be a back up center in next year's draft after we go OT, CB, & WR in the first three picks...

I'll retweet this, but I like Osbourne on the field as a vet ahead of Thornton. He hasn't proven chit to me.

Would you have been happy if we sent a 3rd rounder for Dotson? Our 3rd round pick is pretty much going to be close to a late 2nd.

I'll also add that we should consider Austin Hooper/Antonio Gibson a part of this WR group as well...

How much our WR's play will depend on the personnel we use....if we go 12 personnel....with Henry/Hooper on the field....our #3/#4 WR's won't be seeing snaps....ditto for 21 personnel with Gibson on the field.

Who?

I'd rather Wolf go after the LT the cards are rumored to kick loose Dennis Daley than trade assets away for a bust wr.

at this point its not about dollars, its about roster spots. don't spend assets on making a trade for a guy who you most likely could pick up in a week with all the roster cuts looming.

I'll echo what a few people have already stated regarding this trade. I don't see why anyone would be upset that we weren't in on this. I get that Dotson still may have some untapped potential and could possibly develop further into a promising player, however NE already has a few players in a similar situation in their WR room (Thornton, Douglas, Polk, Baker). I would even argue that our guys have the potential to become better players than Dotson based on what we've seen on the field thus far.

It would be redundant and bad asset management to send a good draft pick (similar value that we received for Judon) only to add another WR of this stature, that may or may not be a sure thing, to an already crowded WR room. The players we should be up in arms about are the true #1 type receivers, which is the piece that NE is lacking in their WR corps.

I also find it pretty telling that the Commanders were willing to ship Dotson off to a division rival after only two seasons with the team.

No rumor, Daley was released by the cards.

We already have a disappointing high draft pick WR and they are seeing something in camp I have not seen yet in games:

I went to a bunch of practices this summer and Thornton made a couple nice plays almost every session I saw. Very disappointed he didn't do as much in the preseason games.

I think he probably still makes it.

I was expecting Bourne to come off the PUP but it looks like I was wrong so that opens a spot up. Not sure if it should go to Ty but doesn't look like the collaborative is ready to give up yet.

I see this said a lot (that Thornton didn't do anything in the preseason games) but I think it's being very overlooked that the guy barely played in either game. I think he might've taken 15 total snaps, maybe even less, across both games? And he got very open on a lot of those snaps but was rarely targeted - and the couple times he was targeted, Brissett's pass sucked. I can't put any of that on Thornton.

Based on what the coaches are saying, the press is saying, and what little tape he's put up this preseason, I think he's primed to be pretty good - IF he can stay healthy - which is a massive IF.

A team isn’t only wide receivers.
I wouldn’t have a problem with WR at all if they tried hard to improve the roster.

No. I’m not concerned with this move I’m concerned with the thinking that our roster is so good we weee smart to stand pat and save $50,000,000

Which is why I am ok they made an effort to get Ridley and Aiyuk but didn't stretch. They aren't there yet.

NFC East loves to trade players within
division

Wait, do you think that conglomeration of maybes at 2 compares favorably to any other NFL teams? Who would take our guy over theirs?
I don’t see how we are competitive at 4,5,6. What teams have weaker 4,5,6?
It’s like you can name them so that makes them depth.

So we have the worst#1. We have probably the worst 2 ( who is actually 1 because who knows if Bourne will even play anytime soon) we gave a second year 3 who you have hope for and beyond that no one who has really done much.

Can you name which team you think we compare favorably to?

I suppose the blame for my disappointment could go to the coaches or QBs but at practice he actually had me a little intrigued and it would have been nice to have seen that more in the preseason games. We'll see if he can do more with his chances soon or he could wind up out when Bourne does finally came back same can be said for Reagor or Boutte if they make it too.

Had they tried to improve the roster we might be there, or many steps closer.

Osborn's and Dotson's numbers and measurables are eerily similar except Dotson is 20lbs lighter.

Mid WR somehow traded for a third round pick. Cool, who cares?
