ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports Detroit Lions WR Charles Rogers has been discussed in trade talks.

i doubt its between Saints and Lions though. Because Saints know Stallworth is better than Rogers right now. and Lions dont need another very capable WR next to Roy and Mike

no i was thinkin it might be the PATS there wise guy

no ****? im just saying because some might get confused

I might b a little confused here, but bethel johnson and donte stallworth? Thx for posting sall woths stats everybody, i also was under the misconceived notion the he was an ijury plaqued wideout.
IMO with those stats in mind, it would seem that stallworth has out performed branch and he has been on a ****ty team his whole career.

The trade value of a guy like that would be well worth a 2nd round pick. Does any1 here remember back when stallworth was drafted? I am pretty sure there were alot of pre-draft rumors that bb loved the guy and was high on drafting him, but he went to NO first instead. Maybe bb is ready to finally bring him back to NE where he felt he belongs. I don't know. But, I would have to have to say. Branch and stallworth would be a HUGE upgrade over givens and bracnch as a combo. Add in a veteran receiver for the 3rd spot to be our clutch posession receiver, and brown as our 4th we would be incredibly set. I would LOVE to have that WR corps any day. Oh shoot i forgot Caldwell Anyway we can move bethel down that chart and stick him strctly to ST would help. IMO bethel has been an absolute bust and will NEVER put up decent numbers for us.

Oh, well. Here goes to wishin', right?

wise guy

that's an ironic statement, right?

-----------

Branch and Stallworth were members of the same draft class.

Stallworth: 13th overall to New Orleans, 1st WR taken, followed by Ashley Lelie (Denver, 19) and Javon Walker (Green Bay, 20).

Branch: 65th overall (last pick round 2), 11th WR taken, following Jabar Gaffney, Josh Reed, Tim Carter, Andre Davis, Reche Caldwell, Antwaan Randle El and Antonio Bryant.

when givens was signed by the titans i went to that draft and counted, cant remember now, but obviously there were a boat load of wrs picked before him

i kinda forgot stallworth was the first one taken
i always remember lelie there, now theres a bust

as for compensation for stallworth i think a third round pick would get it done

Stallworth is better than Bethel.

He is just as fast...and...he has far better stats.

I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Long time lurker, first time poster here. Anyway, I live in New Orleans and I would love the Pats to get Stallworth if this is legit. The guy when healthy is an awesome downfield threat and would be a great compliment to Branch plus I've met him a few times at Saints mini-camp and he's a class act real cool guy. Last season for example the crowd was getting all over Brooks and Stallworth was signing autographs and he spent the next 5 minutes defending Brooks to the crowd, real team guy.

Don't the Saints have an oldie but goodie WR who won't fit in thier current, new, improved, rebuilding effort? I forget his name...

Update:

POSTED 3:53 p.m. EDT; UPDATED 4:48 p.m. EDT, April 17, 2006
SAINTS SHOPPING STALLWORTH
A league source tells us that the New Orleans Saints currently are shopping former first-round receiver Donte' Stallworth.

Stallworth was the thirteenth overall selection in the 2002 draft. He is under contract through 2007, with base salaries of $1.92 million and $545,000 in the final seasons of his rookie deal. We're told, however, that he has met the trigger for voiding the final year of the deal, making him a free agent after the 2006 season.

... 2005 - 70 catches for 945 yards and seven touchdowns.

With Stallworth signed through 2006 only, anyone who trades for him will also need to sign him to an extension.
more at http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

I'm still holding out hope that we go into the draft with no real needs, and this guy would go a long ways in taking care of our need for a #2 WR.

Ahhh, come on....the Saints just finally resolved their QB problems with Drew Brees -- and now they're going to get a new #2 receiver, just to mix things up even further?

As much as I'd like to see Stallworth in a Patriot's jersey, it's not going to happen, folks...

Sure, Stallworth is younger, and the Saints don't have the bitter $10mil pill Buffalo had to swallow, but if Moulds set the market at a 5th rounder then Stallworth shouldn't cost more than a fourth since he has never been as good as Moulds.

So, we assume two things to explain why Stallworth hasn't been traded - outside of the fact that this is a baseless rumor, but that just couldn't be true so we'll proceed.

1) N.O. is asking for way too much - like a high two or low one rounder. At that price forget it.

2) N.O. isn't letting anyone negoiate with Stallworth before the trade, maybe to protect Stallworth's pysche in case a trade doesn't materialize. He'd still be tempting for the right price anyway: a fifth or lower.

I'd definitely take him for a 4th (we have two) and a reasonable contract extension. But N.O. eveidently needs to get a little more real to work with the Pats. I bet the Lions would take him for a second rounder - they only have 10 WR's on the roster, why not another?????? :singing:

Joer Horn for a 6th?

Len Pasquerlli, of Espn had in his collumn that maybee Stallworth would be available thru a trade..I doubt this but would we consider this... Im starting to think this is going to be like the 2001 off season, we wont draft a wr and have more FA pick ups like Torrence Small Charles Johnson types...

I think it is more likely to pick up Joe Horn for a late pick. Give him a chance to win a ring, before retiring...

problem is they arent giving away horn. stallworth likely isnt happy there and as far as giving up picks..its likely a 2nd or low 3rd

His downfield speed and character sounds nice. Since you're from NO perhaps you can give a scouting report on him.

Does he run clean routes? Can he read the defense and make the correct adjustments? Does he block well? Does he run his routes well when he's not the primary? Is he smart enough to hydrate the night before a big game?

These are some of the things I'd like to know before giving up a cheap young player (draft pick) for him...
