Donnie Edwards is 227 lbs and turns 34 in April. That gives him one year and seven pounds on Rodney who is a safety for crying out loud.

I have no problem signing a mini and/or elderly LB as long as it is only be as a reserve/role player. The starting four still need help. (That said, a LB corps of Tedy, Rosie, Vrabel, Junior, Donnie Edwards & TBC would would probably buy us another year on the cheap. Throw in a decent rookie and I wouldn't even mind.)

How much longer is he going to play?

The pats would pick him up only if it was for 1 or 2 years and pretty cheap.

I see another team paying more money for him.
Now if he wants a chance to win a Ring, then none of this crap matters and we could get him.

Based on what? I've said several times that I'd prefer to pass on Edwards. He's too light to hold up in our system. Not to mention, he's an older player and I think this is the time to start getting younger.

Even with his age , He led the chargers in tackles for the last 5 yrs in a row.Also , to cover a faster TE you need a lighter/faster LB .He is excellent in coverage and also TB gave him alot of props after the game.

Sounds a lot like the Seau talk earlier this year, doesn't it? He's too old, he doesn't weigh enough, etc. Seau was decent, as I recall....and by decent I mean the most consistently good player on our defense.

Seau didn't finish the season as I recall. It isn't a coincidence that he missed 8 games through 14 season, and has missed 22 in the last three. Older players get hurt more often. (And Seau is 248 lbs and built like a truck. No one has ever said he was too small.)

Edwards is sort of one of those guys who racks up tackles five yards downfield. The Chargers never have great per-carry numbers against the run and he is not one of those 3-4 LBs who slams his head into offensive guards. He's a basically a faster but smaller Bruschi, and anyone who paid attention to when teams ran on Tedy last year knows what that means.

As I said though, I'd still take him on in a limited role or in a senior circuit ILB-by-committe approach with Tedy, Junior & a young guy. With long yardage, coverage duties, some of Belichick's weirdo 2-5 formations, he would definitely be useful - but not as an every down linebacker.

I just have a strong feeling Donnie Edwards will be here for 2007. Yes, he stacks up tons of tackles. Yes, he sometimes gets taken for rides on run plays. Yes, he really is more of a coverage guy than a run stuffer. Etc., etc., etc. But he's the one we're definitely getting. I know this because a little guy living in my head has pushed a "certainty" button on Edwards. Also stars are aligning just so, and I have been able to store a razor blade next to a Donnie Edwards fathead for over a year, and the razor blade is still sharp. And dude, it's a Gilette blade.

'06 - 4.18, YPC NFL ranking 20

2004 was the same season the then new defensive coordinator, Wade Philips, installed the base 3-4 to the Bolts' defense. While I agree that Edwards will never be mistaken for Ted Johnson, I think you're selling the guy short on his run defense.

Look, I don't want to come off as some Edwards homer. Ideally, we'd pick up Adalius to plug the middle. Even a Thomas signing, however, leaves a critical issue with the LB corp unresolved: the need to inject some speed into the corp. It's not just that our LB corp is getting older. They're getting slow.
