I would think that, that should NOT have been very difficult to do back then, considering the winning percentage of your competition that year was a stellar .396, having played only (2) teams with records above .500. And, both of them were merely 8-6 at year's end. Not to mention, back then, NO real "parity" like today. There were ONLY a handful of teams that were real "contenders" back then. The NFL was rather weak (especially when compared to the modern era). There was no "salary cap" issue to contend with back then. And, NO free agency like today. I would also state if you could match your "perfect" Dolphins, back in the "prime" against the current Patriots (or any decent team) of the modern era, your Dolphins would get run right out of the stadium. And, didn't your "legend in his own mind" coach also run the competition committee back then? Talk about "conflict of interest" if you ask me. Maybe the NFL should probe into that (even though it has been 35 years). So, be my guest, convince yourself of your asterisks, and everything else that goes with it, if it makes you feel better. Quite frankly, I am bored with it all, and does not phase me any more. If the Pats finish this off and go 19-0, it relegates your "team of perfection" to second best at BEST historically speaking. Personally, I would not rank them any better than about 6th all time, considering the "high school teams" they played back then. So, I see why you and the '72 Dolphins are so wired about this current Pats team. Their one and only aspect of relevance in life is about to be surpassed and eclipsed. The only thing that could make that sweeter would have been to see the Dolphins create their own "history" by going winless. It is a shame that won't happen. Because, I personally would have bought champagne for the 1976 Bucs to pop, at completion of that "achievement" and let them cheer "We are longer the worst ever".
So, PLEASE keep it up, your envy and desperation of impending doom are quite ENJOYABLE !!!!
