Seems like this team is content to feed him scrubs to turn into sound technical players. While this allows the team to invest draft capital elsewhere, you have to think there's only so much underpowered centers like Wendell can do against top DTs, even with the best coaching.

I don't think it's a coincidence this O-Line flails in nearly every playoff loss. Eventually the talent gap can't be compensated for.

not sure about the talent, but scarrnechia's oline has failed in the biggest games since 2007.

Logan Mankins, the player who has been the worst in big games, has been the biggest offender. Worst player on the O-Line. So you think he is a scrub?

I think for the most part we have been hamstrung by mankins's contract.

With vollmer going down, and other guys getting hurt all year we really just ran out of bodies.

99%, he's the best player. He just chooses awful times to revert to scrub mode.

I'm referring more to C and RG though, both which have been turnstiles for far too long. Exceptions include the brief period we had Waters and Thomas.

Those are two positions this team refuses to spend significant resources on. I think the UDFA bunch can only take you too far.

I'll bet a million dollars we spend more in salary and draft picks on the OLine than in any of our championship years.

We will have two first rounders and a second rounder as starters. If you think that this equates to scrubs, so be it.

In addition, we are likely to use a top draft choice draft a center or guard to start in 2014 or 2015.

We spend lot of resources on the offensive line: money, draft choices and coaches.

BTW, the offensive line produces well enough to produce every set of observers except those who post on patriot message boards. Of we know best. We KNOW that every one else is wrong when they rate our offensive line as one of the top fieve in the league, as was done in 2012 and 2013. NOT

Scrub is as scrub does. Having stud tackles and a stud LG doesn't really cover for having undrafted C and RG.

I'm not saying draft position always equal ability but you can't say this team isn't paying dearly for having a weak interior line.

And yes, I pooh pooh any notion that the Patriots O-line is top 5. To me, top 5 means you don't get dominated by DL once every post season.

What good is a statistical top O line unit of it fails at the worst possible time consistently?

I'd be more than happy for that first rd pick to go into C or RG.

Brady got mauled this year.

If you spend high picks on centers and guards, you don't get picks elsewhere where you arguably can't develop players as well.

Wendell's not strong enough, but I think they just need to develop bigger interior guys. You can and almost have to develop at OLine because you can't get premium DLs and CBs etc. in my opinion. We've got 3 out of five premium linemen, I bet that's average or above.

Actually if Vollmer's OK, we might have the road grader at guard in Cannon. We might have the future center on the PS too. I've looked at centers available and i don't see there are real standouts, according to the draft analysis.

Yeah, the Patriots depend on not only Scarnecchia too much, but also on Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, Bob Kraft, Jonathan Kraft, Vince Wilfork, Julian Edelman, Matt Patricia, Nick Caserio, Aquib Talib, Josh McDaniels, Scott O'Brien, Ivan Fears, Harold Nash, Brian Daboll, Rob Ninkovich, Matthew Slater, Drew Bledsoe, Corey Dillon, Randy Moss, Roger Goodell, Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin.

What kind of OL do you think we SHOULD have to protect a QB who was taken late in the 6th round?

Maybe one that allows the Patriots to run against top quarter run Ds. And stop said QB from being destroyed in the playoffs.
