Do Pats go for RB despite D needs .. if McCaffrey falls to them?

Foster certainly had more college production as a receiver. A a runner, yes, McC (thanks for that) offers more than Foster, but I'm still not sure that he really fills a void or puts us over the edge as a team. He's not even close to my favorite back in this draft, which contains quite a few potential game changers. I see a good player, but not a transcendent player. If we're going offense early, I'm more interested in a guy like Corey Davis, who holds the all the time FBS receiving yards record. Overall I see this as a defense heavy draft, with quite a few guys who could really help our team.

Love corey davis. Could be available.

I highly doubt McCaffrey goes in the first round. He will be at the very least, the third RB taken. Both Leonard Fournette (LSU) and Dalvin Cook (FSU) are first round talents. McCaffery will be in the Nick Chubb (GA), Royce Freeman (ORE), Samaje Perine (OK) territory somewhere between rounds 2-3.

There are a lot of very good RB in this years draft.

You can get quality RBs in the 4th round. Often times later than that or even undrafted - although it's almost a matter of luck at that point.

he's a 3rd down back in the NFL and the pas already have two on the roster. if Brady is going to play at 40 and so on I want the pats going OL with the first two picks

Cook is a beast. My RB big board would look like: Cook, Fournette, Perine for the top 3. I really think McCaffery is overrated.

I admit 100% I dont have 1st hand knowledge of anything but
Cook is a great talent with more than "some" baggage. I'm not sure it's fair to put anything out there but I guarantee things will come out and if its what I heard it will make you cringe and Cook 1000% WONT be a 1st rd'r. Not after (Hardy and Vick)

As for OP its Dec and there's light years until draft day. Bowl games, combine/pro day, dirt coming out and so on.
Basically we have no idea what the draft board will look like and who'll be available. Many think Tim Williams will go very early and I think theres a great shot hes available for us if we want.

It's a special year year for defense period. Any position. Talented and deep. Key word, "deep". There will be plenty of talent in the 2nd-3rd due to QB's and T's getting over-drafted.

As for Christian McCaffrey he's the ultimate change of pace back. Hes not a bruiser but he handle some work up the middle. He also has some of the best hands and route running ability in the draft. Hes crisp and sneaky setting up defenders. Match up problem from day one.

He'll never give you a problem. How much $ is peace of mind worth? Knowing you can draft a kid. Plug and play in different areas. He has really nice acceleration that will help him burst but is quicker than fast. Great in space. Great stiff arm. Great work ethic.

He does have a lot of wear and tear. Hips aren't the best. Hes not dropping and exploding out of cut. He'll run too high at times and take some bigger shots in the NFL. Pass pro will be an issue but he has no problem knowing his assignment. Its the actual initial physical contact he needs to make and sustain. Position isn't clear besides the obvious "touch guy.

Hes a 20-24 touch guy. Big chess piece. You draft him with a plan.

There's very few offensive guys I'd draft round 1 rn. Probably the biggest Evan Engram fan there is besides his momma. Hes def one guy I'd fully approve of.

It's looking like a huge draft for front 7 talent. No way Belichick goes RB in the first round unless Fournette or Cook fall to them. Even then, I'm not sure he would.

I think they are more or less set @ OL. They have young OL all signed through 2017. I believe they will extend/re-sign Fleming. Tre Jackson probably coming back. They might be looking at C but not in first rounds.

If there isn't a good fit at CB/LB/DT/DE/T/TE/WR available, I say it's a no brainer.... draft the kid!

Any other year and I say tes! This kid is sudden and a huge playmaker that is versatile and a great teammate.

But this draft is sooooo deep in running backs and we need playmakers on defense sooooo badly!!!!!

Ps: If CB Humphrey from Alabama falls to us, bb needs to run the card up to the podium in about 4 seconds.

Yes, RB is deep and we need to reload with a pick or two.

I think OT is at least a moderate need, considering that Vollmer is likely gone and Solder is entering his final year.

I think many of us are still a bit surprised that they didn't take one this past spring.

Would love to be a fly on the wall during some of the Pats draft discussions and player evaluations. Preferably with a little fly sized beer in my little fly hand.

I love Humphrey. I think he could be special. 6'1/205 He's only 20! He's so good I'd say we'd have a top 5 duo in 2 years if we sign Butler. Hes such a great athlete. Great at using his hands and arms throughout the entire play (jam, defend and make a play) He turns himself into a missile blowing up screens and bubbles. He'll lose track of a ball. Little over aggressive at times. Again only 20.

Humphrey, Sutton, Lewis are all favorites that would be perfect here imo. They are all football players that love the game. Smart. Tough. Don't complain. Can play in any "scheme". I'd be thrilled with any in the 1st.

I see a cross between Jimmy Smith and Chris McAlister for Humphrey.

Malcolm Butler and Dre Bly for Jourdan Lewis.

I wonder if bb gets emotional in the draft room. I imagine him rubbing his hands together at the thought of everyone have no idea who he's gonna take

Here's the plan. Someone be sure to let BB know:

Step 1: Trade JAG to Cleveland for their second pick, from Philly, which will hopefully be in the #8-10 range overall
Step 2: Trade back from the Philly pick for #17 (1st) and #49(2nd)
Step 3: Draft 2 players in the first (#17 and #32), and 2 players in the second (#49 and #64)

That should be enough to draft an elite prospect at LB, DT, RB and CB... and still have a 3rd to spend to on grooming a new QB.

D neeeds? Every first round pick and bunch 2nd rounders in last years were used to build defense.

So what ? Gotta re-evaluate your entire team each year anew and see how everything is developing.
