Dilfer: NE offense very different, thinks spread should come back

Well, that's part of the spread that Dilfer is talking about, but I also agree with this, the offense's tempo has been an issue all year. The plodding pace and fullback make it look more like offenses of the 80s than today.

It looks as if it's a response to defenses getting lighter and faster to take on the spread formations around the NFL. Only thing is, the Patriots are not lining up and running over those defenses like they hope(d) they would. I would be shocked if we don't see more 0, 1, 10, and 11 personnel going forward. Defenses, without Dorsett being on the field, really don't have to fear anybody taking the top off of the unit either so we're seeing a lot of man under to choke off those underneath routes.
 
Couldn’t agree more with Dilfer on this point. Trouble is, I don think they have the personnel to get back to a spread offense where one on one matchups can be exploited.
