I this viable? Do we even have the cap space?
The main issue I have seen so far with our WRs is that none can dependently separate. I don't see how Dez solves this at all. Add in that he has never shown any route running skills and has no clue whatsoever about a EP offense and this doesn't look like a good fit.
Maybe take a shot if he is fine with a vet minimum deal but I highly doubt that.
It's worth a conversation.
Week 1 is over. So now let’s sign him non guaranteed. If he sucks, then we cut his ass.
Can he fair catch a punt?
How does a receiver who is on the downside of his career and is notorious for poor route running, help us? Think Chad Johnsons stint here and you will be in the ball park.
I have no problem if he'll come for a non-guaranteed contract on short money, but I also find it somewhat unlikely. The Patriots only have like $6m in cap space. Also think receiver is less of an issue than it looked like after Dorsett broke out yesterday. They could use a punt returner and a two-down running back who can also play special teams.
If the need is to bring on a WR who MUST create separation and run great routes why the hell would anyone consider this guy?
He’s looking for too much money. If he’s willing to sign for near vet min to prove himself so that he can cash in next year then fine, sign him today. But otherwise it’s not gonna happen.
I think we are all aware of Dez's problems and how he probably isn't a fit here. But to answer your question I would ask another question, how much did WR 3-5 help us yesterday?
For the record I'd much rather find a better option than Dez just not sure there are many other better options right now. Maybe in a few weeks when the trade deadline nears but even if it is Dez there is some value to doing it now to start the development process.
Please please please make this happen. Guy is still very good and would help our team a bunch!
Maybe he could be coached up and be able to do a few things real well.
Anyone have an informed opinion on how good he is now?
Seems like he’s still pretty good but, he’s still a handful taking care of him in the locker room and isn’t a good route runner. Sounds like he’s more work than he’s worth having for most teams.
He has trouble separating in his routes, though I'll note that advanced stats suggest he was no worse than guys like Julio Jones or Emmanuel Sanders (and better than DeAndre Hopkins and Mike Evans, among others) at his average yards of separation per route run. Those stats need to be taken with a grain of salt, though, and he doesn't pass the eye test anymore. I think he's probably no better than Kenny Britt at this point, and they kicked his butt to the curb.
Though I know he isn't talking about Dez Bryant, Zo has repeatedly stated that he feels a move for a pro bowl-caliber receiver is in the works. Take that for whatever it's worth (or isn't), but he's remained adamant about it even on today's program.
Someone like Kendall Wright would be a much better fit for the offense
He is so good that he remains unsigned after a week of football has been played. He could not separate for the last two years on the Cowboys but when some people read his name they think of the 2014 version of him and get giddy.
He’s full of S**t..He has never had any inside info on anything regarding the Patriots.
Separate names with a comma.
