Devin McCourty injury: high ankle sprain, expected back for playoffs

Not to mention Freeny. He's not the greatest by any stretch, but with the injuries to Collins and Hightower, and the slow return to form for Mayo, imagine where'd we be without him. Thankfully the big three seem to be coming back very soon.

You're right, forgot about Freeny. What's the story with him?

High ankle sprains can be really ugly, but the fact that he wasn't placed on IR is a good sign!

Just got done listening to Bertrand, Zolak and Breer talking about McCourty as if he'd already been placed on IR.

Maybe some kind of event TFB and Grobk had to attend? Lifting spirits in a hospital?

Tom finally has had enough and went to visit Tomase for a...ummmm..conversation. Gronk was there for "security".

Think someone got sold a bill of goods on the severity of McCourty's ankle. Guy's with high ankle sprains on this team don't appear at practice 5 days after even if they don't practice

Seems that way. A guy with a severe high ankle sprain isn't running around 5 days after the fact.

Could be a mild high ankle sprain. "high" just means the location not the severity.

Even a mild high ankle sprain I don't think he would be out there. Look at Sheard he a mild ankle sprain and missed a couple of weeks of practice.

True, but the implication has been that is severe based on reports that McCourty was going to be out until the playoffs.

Wow, could this mean we have all of our key defensive guys on the field together next week? Is Hightower going to play?

Isn't the protocol usually to list them as questionable and sit them, then the following week list them as questionable and play them? That's my guess here.

Last year I think Jamaal Charles came back after a week or so from a high ankle sprain, but otherwise I agree the timeline just doesn't really work. It did seem like early reports on McCourty were "ankle sprain", which at some point morphed into "high ankle sprain". The fact that he's practicing today makes a lot more sense if the initial reports were correct.
