Re: Devin McCourty has the most INT's over the last 3 years on passes 15+ yds downfi
Ever since he stepped onto the field, Devin McCourty has been one of the most UNDERRATED DBs in the league. I personally believe he should have been the second Pats rookie to win Defensive Rookie of the Year (Darn it, Suh!). He was a second team All-Pro in his first year along with a Pro Bowl nod. He's also had 43 pass deflections in his first three years. That puts him in company with Ed Reed (44 PDs) and Eric Weddle (48 PDs in his entire career).
He was amazing as a rookie for us, and I don't think I need to quote any stats. We all know he was the best rookie DB for us since Haynes. IIRC, this year when he moved to safety, he only allowed something like a 10.1 passer rating to opposing QBs. That mark was the best in the league for Safeties (including game-breakers like Earl Thomas and Jairus Byrd) by far and he only gave up one touchdown in coverage while lining up as a FS.
Additionally, reports have lauded his leadership skills, and his teammates have recognized this also, making him a co-captain. This guy is going to be a superstar. Most fans outside of Massachusetts look at our sub-par (to put it lightly) secondary and lump all the players together, saying it's a unit failure. But McCourty has been one of, if not the only bright spots on this defensive backfield.
I was high on this guy coming out of college,
I was his biggest fan when he snagged 7 INTs his rookie year
I knew he was the unlucky victim of teams targeting their #1s when McCourty was covering them in his sophomore slump
and I doubted his ability to transition to safety effectively, because I thought he belonged at CB and we that we had more holes there than at FS.
I'm his biggest supporter and it will be a travesty if he doesn't make the 1st All-Pro Team this year.
