My gut tells me BOB was ok with this.

That's weasel language. There's a distinction between "guarantees" and "fully guaranteed." For example, it might have $5m guaranteed in year 3 provided he's still on the roster.

Parker was very effective last year when he played. With 3 more catches he would have led the league in DVOA (efficiency). As it was he was 19th in DYAR (production).

Cutting Parker and signing Hopkins was the easy move, but I am guessing they'd much rather have both players. Parker looked very solid down the stretch last year but he has trouble staying on the field. Adding his $6M salary this year to the $33M from his 3 year extension, that's $39M total for 4 years which is just under $10M per season - seems like pretty good value for a player of his talent, and he's been good in the locker room.

I am very curious what impact this has on the 2023 cap. If it does save them money then you have to assume another domino will fall shortly as they were not hurting for cash.

This is classic agent spin fed to Rap. When the details are released I expect this to be a team friendly deal which mainly rewards Parker if he can remain healthy.

He loves height and TE's ... Parker ... Henry ... Gesicki --- Bourne and JuJu
out there empty backfield ... for some plays ... I will be loving it if we see it.

We could be the air O'Brien ... with many options.
the new Air Coryell with 1 TE 3 WR and Stevenson ... the power runner.
Lock up the WR's so there is time for offensive growth.

Yeah if I had to guess it is something like:

2023: drop salary to $1M, grant signing bonus of $5M - Parker essentially gets the same money this year he would've gotten already if he made the roster and was not cut or traded, but 2023 cap hit becomes only about $2.25M for a cap savings of somewhere around $3M
2024: non-guaranteed salary of $5M, signing bonus pro-ration of $1.25M; cap hit $6.25M
2025: "guaranteed" salary of $9M which is paid out if he is on the roster at start of league year; voids if he is released beforehand; signing bonus pro-ration of $1.25M; cap hit if retained $10.25M
2026: non-guaranteed salary of $9M, signing bonus pro-ration of $1.25M; cap hit $10.25M

Then just add a few million worth of per-game roster bonuses here and there to make it add up to $33M but base value is really more like $28M with only $5M actually guaranteed (the signing bonus).

You can't coach separation and athletic ability and DeVante Parker literally can't separate from anyone in 2023, chucking up heaves to this guy is asking for trouble.

He might not separate, but end result was pretty good. Look at average yards per route run - that's a really good number. He wasn't targeted that often (partly O-line was bad and he runs deep routes) but when he was targeted he had elite results.

The dot-connecting between Parker and Hopkins all offseason has been really bizarre. Parker ran one of the most vertical route trees in the NFL last season, while that element was almost entirely absent from Hopkins’ game. If the Patriots are going to add Hopkins and expect him to continue to average ~10 targets per game, then I think you want to surround him with lower target volume, higher per-target efficiency guys, and that’s exactly Parker’s game.
