The defensive snap counts yesterday are very telling.

Ten players on defense played 2/3rds of the snaps. Ekuale/Godchaux played 73%/65%. This was unheard of during any game under Bill, unless you were Vince, let alone game one.

The Patriots were all in. I like it considering the roster and situation, but there's no depth, which we knew, and injuries can't be far away.

No first quarter of the season to evaluate. Just win baby. What do you think of this strategy?

Yes, but with Barmore gone, they are quite thin.

They need some wins to keep the pressure off, but players like Ekuale/Godchaux/Wise don't really represent the future.

Yeah short term is what I mean for bodies... I think we are missing a dynamic show - white & barmore this season, which is a a bummer...

I don’t see the big need for bodies here barring injury. The Bengals couldn’t run the ball, Ekule did a good job against the rum. Using Keion as a DT on nickel downs provided some pressure which should improve. Barring injury this D played great and should continue to.

Wise's snap count was a little low so a few more for Wise and few less for Ekuale balances that a little.

Godchaux probably going to have a lot without Barmore.

I can bet you next draft is heavy on OL and Defense. We need depth at LB, DL for sure. Ne nice to pick up a FA for rotational purposes. It's a long season. Bye isn't until week 14 I think.

I think you could've rotated Jennings, Wise, McMillan, Uche more into the game. There is a little bit of depth. Those 4 could provide it.

It honestly doesn’t look as bad as i thought up front. White as the leader with 80% and 40 snaps isnt too bad and the rest were around 70% or below. I would like a little more wise and ximines though and the DT’s definitely need to be more towards 60% than 70%. Our offense didn’t light it up but if they continue sustaining drives that will help immensely

Ekuale got about 10% more snaps than what was normal for a starting DT last year, but not much difference otherwise. Going by your statistic, 9 players (compared to 10) played 2/3rds of the snaps in last years opener.

Playing a guy 80% of 50 snaps doesn't mean he'll get 80% when it's 80 snaps. Teams manage snap counts, not snap percentages.

Ekuale got about 10% more snaps than what was normal for a starting DT last year, but not much difference otherwise. Going by your statistic, 9 players (compared to 10) played 2/3rds of the snaps in last years opener.

Here's another way to look at it:

This year's opener, the top 11 defensive players played 457 snaps total.
Last year's opener, the top 11 defensive players played 559 snaps total.

Ended up being a significantly lighter day for the top defensive players.

Trysten Hill was third among DT's in snaps, he should get a bump in playing time. Not because the other two played poorly, but because Hill played really well all preseason and deserves a better look.

Very good point , when you look at the total snaps the workloads actually look light compared to the numbers posted from last year’s opener. A good run game is your best friend, we won top 34-26

Barmore and Godchaux were 66%/60% for the year. I don't know whether they missed any games or parts of games.
I think that Guy was in the 40's; Pharms played only in 22%. So, Godchaux and Ekuale picked up some of Guy's reps.

I don't see a change in strategy. The numbers are close 2023. The difference is that Pharms was much lower than 2023 Guy

We have our three top corners: Gonzo, Jones and Jones.
Marco Wilson was the 4th in the 20's, filling in some for the Jones boys who were at 80% and 71%.
So, almost always had 5 corners out there.

SAFETY
We must have played a lot of dime. Dugger and Peppers were always out there and Hawkins logged 47%.
