Defensive LMan 40 Times

Sure, Irvin had the best Forty, but he was not nearly the most impressive for me.

Nick Perry, think large OLB ala Willie Mac, ran a 4.5 on his first attempt, and benched 225 35 times at 6'3'' 271 lbs. He projects to 3-4 OLB.

Dontari Poe, Wilfork being the comparable at 6'3.5 and 346lbs, ran a 4.87 40, and benched 225 44 times!!! It is said nose tackle may not even be his best position, since his strengths are quick burst and penetration.

Wow. Both are projected pre-combine to be late first rounders. If we got both of them, I would consider the draft a success. Plug them in:

Poe - Wilfork - Deaderick
Ninko/Anderson - Spikes - Mayo - Perry
Arrington - Chung - McCourty - Dowling

That is without adding a FA. (I know it's unlikely both would start)

I want Perry or Irvin so bad. But of course neither will be on BBs draft board because he doesn't believe in good young pass rushers.

Perry seems like more of a 1-gap 3-4 OLB unfortunately. He also said he would rather play DE than OLB.

Irvin looks great on paper but we really, really need to see if this kid has any presence in the run game and can set the edge. WVU only used him 8-12 snaps a game.

is poe able to play DE in a 3-4 defense like ngata or is he the best fit for nose tackle?

Vinny Curry with a 4.98.....ouch...

I see Poe and Wilfork as NTs that are capable of playing some DE as well.

But Poe needs A LOT of work on technique before he is a FT starter in our defense. A lot of technique work.

Yup. One of the knocks on him is that he gets pancaked too much. Doesn't keep his head up.

Yeah, Mayock said he counted him on the ground eight times in game. Says he needs to improve on that. I think he would contribute more at DE in 3-4 at this point.
