Is then our priority. FA and Draft?

We have many priorities in my eyes but this offseason does appear to set up very well for defense. Assuming we go carter or graham first pick you can likely land at least 2 starting caliber defenders up front in the draft given how deep it is at dl. Fa might have good options at edge/mlb/cb/dl if you want to double dip there. hope we sign at least 3 on defense. You could realistically add 5 impact players to the d (and barmore hopefully) plus whatever you want to add offensively.

Is that still true? What's better, a stellar offence and a bottom feeder defence OR a bottom feeder offence and a stellar defence. Kinda feel I'll take my chances on the stellar offence in today's NFL.

Unlike all the WR’s guys here I want the Patriots to build dominant offensive and defensive lines. Then add the icing on the cake.
No No No....you smear the icing on the plate and smash the cake on top of it .....geez come on, everyone knows that.

Everyone keeps talking about "priorities" and philosophies of building through the trenches vs. adding skill players. I get it, but I think that mindset is missing a very key concept... you are not in total control of who is available to you.

You can make it a "priority" to land a solution at LT, but what if Alaric Jackson, Dan Moore, Ronnie Staley all get tagged? What if Cam Robinson strongly prefers to sign with a southern team because he's from Louisiana? What if your honest evaluation isn't strong for any of the draft options?

You can make it a "priority" to get a #1 WR but what if Higgins gets tagged and you don't think Hunter or Tet are #1 WR caliber prospects? What if Metcalf won't sign an extension even if you do trade for him?

You can force the issue at a certain position if you really want to... but it's kind of like a fart in that if you have to force it, it's probably a **** solution. And it's not like this roster is one or two pieces away. The whole team sucks. We have the worst OL, the worst receiving corps and the worst front 7 in the NFL, or close to it for all 3 spots. it's pretty much a blank slate. Just do the best you can landing talent from what's available and mold the team off of that.

I was thinking along these lines as well. I think you do have to prioritize but like you said if the linemen dont fall from the sky during FA and a quality receiver comes up and we have a need at that position you move on it. In a perfect world every positional need can be addressed in FA and you can be picky about it but we know thats not going to happen. I would be happy if we can get 3 players in FA that we can all say yes these dudes will help the team and will fill some of the needs we have. Then we see what other holes we can fill via the draft. I do not believe every need will be filled this year, there are simply too many. If we nail it this year and next we may be looking pretty good but otherwise I figure it to be a 3 year process to field a team like the Eagles that don't have any glaring positional issue.

If we agree on the premise that this is a multi-year rebuild and that we have massive gaps to fill on both O and D, then you rebuild in the order of what's available.

We see what a **** offense and under-performing defense gets you (4-13), so if we assume Drake Maye gets a little better this year and we load up on the D side of the ball, I would hope (maybe even assume), we'll improve on 4-13. Conversely, loading up on O this year will also make us better.

But then, you'll need to project what's coming available next year, because we'll be less flexible at that point.

Agreed 100%.. the only thing we can control is the players we draft. This is why I've said personally that we have already had upgrades simply by the coaching we currently have now.

Even there, while you technically control who you draft, you can't control the talent level of the players in the class and you can't control who other teams take. So you can only control who you draft within those parameters outside of your control. The biggest example is LT... everyone's ideal world is taking a franchise LT at #4 but you can't just make one appear if there's not one in the class, which a lot of people feel there isn't. So you can control whether you take one, but not whether there's someone there who actually is a franchise LT.

That's exactly correct. Where coaching comes In to play is where players come in and get top notch coaching once they enter the building. It will allow them to gain the knowledge and techniques that maybe thier God given ability won't allow. Of course you want talent but as your perfectly mentioned every wants talent.

Why either or, beef up both lines, if your arguing which line first, then yeah, defense but you saw how a better O-line would have helped Mahomes in the Super Bowl.

No no no! When you don’t get your favorite All World WR in FA you fling icing around like poo!
