Cannon still needs work, but I tip my hat off to Flemming. He repeatedly chopped the hell out of Jones.

On late game obvious pass rush plays, yes, other than that it was more passable than it was good.

As much as anything I think it could be seen as a new prism thru which to see the "was CJones worth paying" argument. If he can get owned by Cam Fleming...he probably isn't the guy you give the godfather contract deal to, sack totals be damned. Because we won the game I won't fault him for getting buried by Marty on that bs holding call...Chandler had plenty of non-called holds while he was here.

(I will note that I think Chandler Jones, police incident aside, seems like a quality and fun young individual and is a fine football player and I would absolutely welcome him on any team of mine at something slightly above Ninkovich pay levels...he's just not a franchise player as a DE and worse guys than him are getting paid stupid money)

Cannon needs to get stronger, he gets pushed back way too much.
Andrews needs to stop letting people freely rush the middle, I felt stork was much more reliable.
This is gonna be tough without Vollmer and Solder.

Also I felt a lot of times Jimmy wasn't calling out rushers.

Yup. When you watch Jimmy doing the presnap assignments and compare to Brady, it's different levels. There were a bunch of times that a rusher got to Jimmy that I would have expected Brady to point out. I guess that only comes with experience.

That's because he was. Andrews is a step down from Stork.

Kraft should be paying that man $2mill per year.

Just shows how much Brady has studied this game, he helps everyone around him to make sure the blocks are set properly, I watched the game replay again and at times Jimmy was too focused looking ahead instead of looking left and right to check safeties and corners blitzing.
I'm sure next week Jimmy will be even better, lots of studies is going to go on in the first half of the week and I am sure Josh and Bill will point things out to him.
Overall for his first start he was pretty good...this is his 3rd year.

Absolutely, Stork never got bullied in the middle as far as I remember.
You need dirty tough guys in the middle of your line, people that are willing to get down and dirty and knock people out, someone like Kevin Mawae.
Anyways, its only game one, hopefully Andrews improves or I see another change coming up. Brady is up there in age and if free rushers come down the middle then thats going to be a big problem.

I also kinda miss Chandler Jones, that guy is a beast and he might have another pro-bowl type season this year. He played hard and he was on the field pretty much the whole time. Gonna be hard to replace such talent. Jabaal Sheard needs to step up his game with Rob Ninkovich absence.

Blount had a decent game other than the fumble, he played hard with mediocre run blocking, I'm sure things will be better for him when we get Gronk back.
James White had a good game so far, he has improved a lot.
Edelman is in top form, the way he throws his body is a bit concerning because of injury, but either you go 100% all day or you go home.
Amendola was non existent in the first half, he finally came through in the 2nd half.
The rookie Mitchell had I think one or two receptions this game, he will improve a lot as the season goes on. Not a speedster, but a big body receiver.

Lastly we need to address our tackling, the AZ running back made our linemen look like rookies not able to tackle him. I'm sure Bill will be on everyones ass about this today.

I loved the enthusiasm and energy Jones brought while he was here. The issue with Jones is simply, one has to tailor expectations. He most likely will fetch a big contract from somebody next year that he isn't worth it, as he is not the game-changer that the top pass rushers are.

I hope Mason or Karras can convert to C and displace Andrews at some point.

Yep, we gotta replace Andrews.
I'd like us to pick a center in the 2nd or 3rd round...if possible first round, we really need a reliable guy.
The center basically calls blitzes and protections and coordinates the O-Line blocking.
If Brady had an O-Line like the cowboys we would be in the SB every year. This is one of those things BB has failed miserably the last few years. Since the Dan Koppen/Matt Light/Mankins days we haven't picked a worthy offensive linemen.

It ain't that awful... BB has always had the philosophy that he can find good O linemen deep in the draft and develop them with his staff. I do not think BB has "failed miserably" unless he is responsible for the injuries..

I thought overall that the O line played ok last night, against a very good defense.. there are always wrinkles, but they did ok. Have to remember that Arizona is a very good defensive team.. they were 5th in the league in D last year and 4th against the run.

Compared to the end of last year the line did fine last night.

Scar did a great job getting them ready vs a very active defensive front.

Always room for improvement as as the year goes on I expect them to do so.
