This to me is very interesting. Dan Quinn and his Falcons have had 1 or maybe 2 practices but they already feel most of what they need to prepare is done at this point?

Is it that this is a team that will just run what it runs regardless of who it plays or that he doesn't want to over load his young defenders with too much information.

What do you make of this?

It sounds to me like it's just a straight forward comment, in the sense that their film study and game prep are done.

After all, it is Thursday (Fri. now) and they've been doing it this way for the majority of 5 months. In most weeks they'd be doing their last practice today and their walkthru on Sat. Belichick said pretty much the same thing today about NE.

I don't think it's that uncommon. Belichick says he's gotten at least halfway done with his gameplan, and will have the bulk of the prep work done before leaving for Houston

Also, Falcons might have a leg up on the Pats in terms of advanced scouting, since Dimitrov and Pioli are in their GM operations

Respect, Soul. I think the whole Pioli/Dimitroff thing is overrated. They haven't been in the building for years now. Any insight into the Patriots is likely mostly obsolete now as things change yearly in this league. Some things may be the same, but most other things have likely been tweaked. How much can they possibly know about the inner workings of the 2016 version.

Part of me wonders if Quinn said that just to give his team confidence in his preperation going vs BB as he already came out and said he's done studying for his midterms and ready to party in HOU

Excellent.......

Let me fix that for you...

I hope he really is that overconfident to think that they can just do what they do against BB. Works for me.

You do realize Belichick said basically the same thing?

The bulk of the game plans are usually installed before the team heads out to the host city.

I can't see how this helps.....you say nothing that will enable your players the context to ease up and lose focus

it's more likely he's trying to play some jedi mind game

what he doesn't realize is that it doesn't matter ...... the pats will do what they do regardless of who says what

I tend to agree. Going tit-for-tat with BB in the perpetration game is a no-win scenario.

He said it for a reason. What I have no idea.

I think people will try anything

the problem is that the guy on the other side doesn't give a **** and isn't even listening....he's too busy identifying every possible detail

Hes going up against a coach who does not call timeouts with 20 seconds left at his own 1 yard line in Super Bowls.

Quinn is already overmatched and his players need to make up for the gap.

Not even close.

Belichick: Quality preparation key for Super Bowl

"......."We have a lot to get ready for and a lot of work to do. It's good to be working this time of year....."

" "It will be important for us this week to get the things done that we are trying to get done. If we don't get all the way through what we thought we might get through that's not nearly as big a problem as making sure what we do cover we actually have it right....."

"Where you never want to be with game planning is, you work on something but you don't really have it. I think the best thing to do is wherever we are that we are actually there" , said Belichick."

.

I recall the Patriots adding a play on the Saturday before XLIX in a hotel ballroom walkthrough.

Good point.
I think that Dan Quinn, who prepared for the Pats two years ago, actually has much more useful knowledge about the Pats. I'm pretty sure that Belichick runs a tight ship based on "need to know"; I imagine that he didn't think that either Pioli or Dimitroff "needed to know" the details of game day planning...because they might end up with another team someday.

More importantly, Quinn brings the SB experience that only a couple of guys in that lockerroom have; this will be his third SB in four years. Half the Pats roster and most of the coaching staff have SB experience. Even Shanahan hasn't been to an SB before.

Dan Quinn has two post-season games of head coaching experience. He's ready.
not sure i'd make too much of that (i.e., "head coaching experience"). Belichick only had four post-season games as HC, two of which were seven years earlier in Cleveland, going into SB 36. But, BB definitely brought his Giants and Parcells experience with him...the equivalent of which Quinn just doesn't have.
