Damn releasing Jack Jones was one of Bills worst mistakes.

He may indeed be a troubled young man, but TSA intercepts 16-20 firearms per day at airports. We're a gun toting society, so much so that people sometimes forget they are carrying, and there is enormous variability in the consequences from state to state because of the political divide over gun ownership.

I don't own and have never owned a gun, but I have had knives confiscated at airport security because I forgot I had them with me. Really easy to do. Other than losing the knives, there were no consequences.
Even before that fiasco he had issues in college. Everyone deserves a chance. But when your not learning from your mistakes it shows immaturity and his bad attitude arguing with pelligrino from what was reported last season was also a problem. I don't blame bill for making that call.. it was the right thing during a terrible 4-13 season.

Jack Jones was a cancer and was terrible when he returned to the defense last year.. he stunk.
Arguing with best CB coach in the league in pelligrino didn't him no justice. His attitude sucks. By the way Wilson looks pretty good. I like him to be in the rotation. My hope is he can take the outside spot opposite Gonzo and J. Jones can be in the slot. Or how would you see it?

Exactly how I see it, if they want to put all their best players on the field put Jon at FS.

The back end of our CB depth chart are already as good or better than Jack Jones. Terrible take from the OP.

Agreed. Yes Jon as FS is interesting. I know Zo said during the broadcast with the McCourty brothers that it would allow Dugger and peppers to be more impactful up around the LOS especially with Barmore out.

Just a small point about Jonathan at FS. He's too good for that role. Mills did it last year but he wasn't a starting corner anymore. With Dugger and Peppers getting most of the safety reps we don't use a FS enough for that to be all Jonathan does.

Jonathan will be a corner first and could rotate to FS in specific situations like 3rd and long. I say could because they could also fill that role elsewhere and just leave Jonathan at CB.

I’ve been pushing the Jon Jones to FS idea for years and what better time to do that when you Marcus Jones who can play in the slot at a high level. Putting a speedy Jones at FS keeps one of our best defenders on the field

People here hated Jack Jones and wanted him gone.

He was a bad mix with JC who seems to have been dealing with some mental health struggles. I am not sure who led who astray, the team kept JC so it is a logical conclusion that Jack's behavior was worse.

Say what you want but that kid can play the ball better than any DB on our team right now.
He just made a great pick against McCarthy.
Pats Nation is insufferable.

Jon has the speed and vet smarts to play free safety, plus he’s getting up in years.

It will allow them to play younger Marcus Jones in the slot. If they face a big WR like the Bengals have they will have enough size with Bolden and potentially Hearn to provide versatility.

Gonzo, Wilson, Jon, Marcus… that’s a ridiculously fast defensive backfield.

Jack was getting smoked, his confidence was shot. He wasn’t fast or a good enough athlete to suffer from a lack of confidence.

I doubt he could crack this depth chart this season even if he was healthy and had his head screwed on right. CB and WR are really deep on this team, there will be a roster crunch on cutdown day.

Other factors at play with him besides just on field performance. He may very well go on to be a steal in Vegas, but it just didn't make sense for him here.

I see the Pats defensive backfield like an nba team these days, playing positionless roles. each player will match up best against that weeks opponent. Dugger and Peppers can move around the field quite a bit, as can Jon Jones. I think Marcus Jones can at some point soon as well.
Don't discount Hawkins at FS either.

This definitely wasn't one of Bill's worst mistakes. Jones wasn't going to lift this 4 win team in 2023. He also had a horrible preseason who can't tackle.

Wouldn't put it in the top 10 for Bill mistakes tbh. Talented player but had other problems.
