Many have indicated that they would of course prefer Barwin and Beatty over Curry. I was surprised.

Would you rather have a Maserati or two BMWs and an extra $30K in your bank account?

Tough, tough choice...............

Gonna have to mull this one over for a while.....

I'm leaning towards to Curry just for the thrill of driving a Masseratti just once, dang it!

The second one, every time. There's no such thing as a can't miss prospect. They all can. On that basis, I prefer to minimise the risk of that happening and maximise the potential value for the team.

Barwin and Beatty i'd rather have two picks that could turn into grade A high quality players in two positions, than one potential A+ player at one position.

As stated in the Curry thread (tks mgitech) personally id take the 1st round tackle and the upside of Barwin over Curry who I don't think is the natural pass-rusher we need - seems to me at least to best suited to the strong side in a 4-3.

Equally id do it the other way round with say English/Matthews and then Mack/Unger/Meredith

As ive said a few times I think there will be quite a few teams in the top 15 (i.e KC, NO etc) who might look to trade down into the 20-40 area as there's a whole lot of value there and we have 2 picks plus the ammo to trade around in the second/third

I'm going to say Curry because if the Pats did make that trade, they still have two second round picks and two more third round picks. Though it is true that there is no such thing as a can't-miss prospect, most analysts agree that Curry is the 'safest' pick at the top of the draft charts.

anybody but barwin around 23 and 34

I agree w/11 picks in this draft go w/Curry and you can fill in role players with the other picks remaining after the trade.

Agreed.

Curry is hands down the safest and most mature prospect. No question about that. But he is not risk-free. And he is ideally a 4-3 SLB. He is not a pure pass rusher, and he projects inside to SILB in the Pats' 3-4. In addition, you would be paying top 10 (possibly top 5) money for a SILB.

Beatty and Barwin have an upside which is close to that of Curry, if not actually greater. They have significantly more risk and are less ready, but you get 2 players at a cheaper cost. The value of a 3-4 pass rushing OLB and of a LT are both greater than that of a comparable SILB.

Can I have Butler and Beatty instead ?

I'd take Barwin and Beatty over Curry - but they wouldn't necessarily be the guys I'd take with those picks.

Without a doubt...Curry. You get the number one rated LB in the draft over the 6th rated tackle and fourth rated OLB/DE.
