Then SB51 made me happy enough that I'll die happy as a Pats fan, even if we suck forever
Same here! I'm glad I hopped into this thread just so I could see this and respond!

It would take a good deal of explaining, but with the passage of time I've come to realize that the cloud I was floating on the week after was the result of an internal shift: that game gave me closure on a personal narrative that had been with me since grade school. A beatdown of the team I now refer to as the Commodes would have been ideal, but I'm not greedy. I got far more than I'd asked way back then and I'm at peace. It's a great feeling to be able to walk away from a win or loss with nearly the same mood. Good riddance to old misery!

I tend to not believe in any sinister scheme, when simple human incompetence is a fully sufficient explanation. I'm not saying rigging/fixing/favoritism is impossible, merely that gross incompetence can easily be mistaken for it.

The squad we had yesterday was just a really bad, possibly JV group. they constantly mixed up offense and defense as teh folks who caused the penalty. numerous missed calls that went both ways. it was really poorly officiated.
Don't agree Chasa, but to each its own..
That Frodo is alive.
Some people will be Happy, Sauron is not one of them

The ref yesterday couldn't even get stuck the script and called penalties in both teams that were in fact changed mid announcement.

That Vikings game had 3 straight 3rd down penalties to end the game.

Is it fixed? Dono. So these professionals have a hard time in their profession? Apparently

You got the closest to my thoughts so far.

What if each judge decides to screw up ONCE? Arent these random acts of "unkindness"? Literally tipping the scales to the controlled chaotic and purest evil, which is self-interest above all

Just food for thought of course

The Netflix "Untold" documentary on the NBA betting/Donaghy scandal is a must watch.
The Netflix series "Bad Sport" demonstrates sports corruption like no other.
Episode 3 : "Soccergate"
Massive Italian soccer fixing scandal involving several teams, their Federation, and referees

All 6 episodes are jaw dropping

I heard about that. Will def watch.

I love football, but one aspect that I don't like is the INFLUENCE a flag has.

Think about it, every week when talking about an upcoming game, one of the big factors everyone says is 'turnovers'. Turnovers are key.

Well, when you think about it, there are many times flags on 50/50 plays that act as a turnover. Third and 5 with an incomplete pass? Getting ready to kick to the otehr team? nope, that iffy contact is flagged for pass interference. Instead of having to play defense to get the ball back the flag 'gave it to you'.

I'm not pretending to have the solution, I just don't like how much flags can influence games (I'm not necessarily referencing yesterday's game, just in general).

which which part?
I think we showed NFL talent there. Just maybe not where it matters the most - the QB position

Of all our moral victories these last 2 seasons, this one is the one that hurts the least to me, which is saying something

I believe the NFL is the most corrupt sports organization there is, morally, ethically, financially, all of it. I think that if they can control the product and get to a level of outcome they want, they will. Having said that, players play, and they can ultimately override bad officiating with excellent play. The league/refs won't throw so many flags that it becomes obvious. The league won't sway the games so they end up with a Detroit v Jete Super Bowl, but they might strive make it so there's the level of parity they covet so dearly. They also can make sure there's a villain, as we all know the Patriots were for so many years.

Just my opinion.

I never watched the Netflix documentary but I still recall my hopelessly degenerate friend had some outlandish, longshot underdog 7-8 game parlay and it came down to a Suns game for him (this guy doesn't even watch the NBA that's what a degenerate he was).

I'm on the phone with him, and he sounds drunk and high on coke, and he cannot believe what this ref is doing. Later I learned from him that was one of that NBA ref's games.

A real impact on people for sure.
