Ok, so you were making a completely subjective point?

You've got no point about the interceptions, no point about forced fumbles, and are arguing "tackles in front of the marker" and sacks as if this particular defense and its two-gap principles should be yielding one-gap numbers for an ILB with a terrible surrounding cast.

I haven't entered into the forced fumble or sack debate. I'm talking only about pass coverage. Those are a different area of the game.

As for passes defensed, that's a near-completely useless measure of defensive ability as a stand alone, and you surely know that.

I disagree, I think passes defended is a very important stat; maybe even more important than interceptions. At least if you have enough of them. You brought up Willis as a comparison and I simply showed you a statistical difference between the two players.

And, again, to get back on track, the point here was that Mayo's interception numbers do not point out a coverage problem.

I never said they did. Only that they are an indicator that he does not get his hands on many balls; which his pass deflection numbers also show. Saying he has a weak part of his game does not mean he's a bad player. It just means he has room to improve. And judging by his reported work ethic, I would guess he will in time.

You are right, Spikes was suspended for using drugs.. Then again, its against the rules and he broke it.. Very disappointing..

BTW out of 27 Regular games, he's only played in 19 (70%). When he came back from his suspension, he was out of shape and wasn't a factor in the playoff game, similar to this off-season.. Do you think he'll be in playoff shape come January? I'm not so sure.. I'm hoping he gets out there and gets some reps.. But again, I wouldn't depend on it.

I'd be more thrilled with Spikes being in the news for tackles than porn tapes and injuries (or the tweets).

At this point, I'm not sure what to make of Spikes. He's not a Bulter (bust), Brace (always injuried but still on the team) but more like a Chung.. A player I think that has potential but at this point we don't really know.. So if they chance is to upgrade the position, we should.. BB did it for years drafting TE's..

The suspension and the aftermath and the TC stuff does have a red flag about his conditioning but he is still a damn good 34SILB and a decent MLB in a 4-3.

And we do have a decent backup in Dane F but he's been injured too.

No, your point all along has been that "not getting his hands on any balls" indicates that Mayo is poor in coverage.

Consider:

Darelle Revis recorded 10 pass deflections and 0 interceptions in 2010.

Devin McCourty recorded 17 pass deflections and 7 interceptions in the same year.

Would you argue that McCourty was better in coverage than Revis in 2010, based on these numbers alone?

Devin McCourty recorded 17 pass deflections and 7 interceptions in the same year.

Would you argue that McCourty was better in coverage than Revis in 2010, based on these numbers alone?

Revis is so good that teams don't throw at him because they fear the interception. Do you think that applies to Mayo? it doesn't. McCourty was amazing last year. He went to the pro bowl and deserved to. This year is a different story.

Considering we haven't played a 3-4 most of this year and last year we were in sub packages more than 60% of the time, and using your words, I rather see an upgrade over a "Decent" LB. Plus it wouldn't hurt to move Guyton off the roster with a nice draft pick.

A Mayo move to the middle in a 4-3 only makes sense if Spikes or Dane is out.

Without looking at film, there's no way for you to judge whether or not teams are throwing at Mayo.
