Comcast files lawsuit against NFL for slander

so let me get this math right, NFLN is charging the cable companys $1.12 per subscriber and the cable company's per the article are only increasing their rates $.70 per subscriber. I don't think so.

Oh and the Golf channel being owned by the cable company might have had something to do with them not being included in the sports tier don't you think.

NFL Net wants ~ triple the amount of CNN and other popular cable nets. the cost isn't justified. HTey want ESPN money problem is they aren't ESPN. The cable companies want them on a pay tier, they want to be on basic cable so they can get more for their ads.

IOW they want to have their cake and eat it too.

Golf channel charges pennies per subscriber. NFLN charges (I believe) $1.12 per subscriber.

A lot of posts here overstate how much NFL costs per subscriber to make their case. Everything I have seen says .60-.80 per subscriber per month, which is by no means multiple times most other basic channels, many of which many people don't watch. And it's a VERY small fraction of "ESPN money".

COST PER SUBSCRIBER HOUSEHOLD (per month)

Leading non-sports channels
TNT: 91 cents
Disney Channel: 83 cents
USA Network: 51 cents
CNN: 46 cents
TBS: 44 cents
Nickelodeon: 43 cents
FX: 36 cents

Leading sports channels
ESPN: $3.26
Fox Sports Net: $1.92
NFL Network: 80 cents
Fox College Sports: 63 cents
NHL Network: 51 cents
ESPN2: 46 cents
NBA TV: 36 cents

NFL is cutting it's own greedy throat. Right now the cable companies have NFLN as part of a sports package. I suspect that as soon as current contracts run out, Time Warner, Comcast, Charter and Cablevison will drop NFLN altogether.

That makes ZERO sense. The cable companies WANT the NFLN on a sports tier, they can make much more money that way. Comcast charged me $8 a month for NFLN+FoxCollege+Golf+a few other cheap unknown channels. They were raking it in, before I dropped them altogether partially as a result.
