I thought it was a good concept, terrible execution.

"Do something so confusing the other team burns a time out before the half or, worst case scenario we do but we weren't going to use ours anyways" isn't a bad idea.

Until you put out a guy who has never practiced it who ignores being told over and over 'don't hike it'.

The problem with that strategy is the other guy is the chess master.

In 58 years of watching pro football, I've seen a lotta crazy ****, but I've NEVER laughed out loud harder at anything than that " play".

I'll echo a lot of thoughts in this thread, that this isn't really outrageous at all. I highly doubt that the Patriots are running full pad high energy practices while the Colts are sitting around. Both teams are likely prioritizing recovery over repetitions, just maybe in slightly different forms. Thursday night football just messes up all routines.

I think they are doing this to make sure they don't put any plays in that might make them look ridiculous..sometimes you have to manage yourself if you know what doesn't help.

They did film review on Monday and walkthrus Tue and Wed.

Its not like players are not preparing for NE and instead sitting around watching cartoons.

They had a lengthy OT game on Sun and have a number of players dinged up.

Time will tell if Reich is doing the right thing but his approach seems reasonable to me.

To this day I can’t believe they hiked that make believe formation they conjured. Just to show the big bad Patriots that they weren’t the only one’s who could do trickery and get away with it. Except Pats stuff was smartest person in the room and within the rules while Pagano’s was just........bunk.

The problem is that the special teams snapper got injured and they put his backup in. And then they never told the backup the signals so he'd know that the "hike" call was phony and shouldn't actually snap it!

So it was a total coaching fail. But not because of the formation itself.

Yep, 5 quarters on Sunday,a heavily banged-up team, then travel to a Thursday away game...it's really a nightmare schedule for the Colts. Focusing on recovery is perfectly reasonable.

This. Against several other coaching staffs and special teams units, this might actually work (as defined by draw either a time out, 12 man, or offside). But against the Pats? That's what is dumb about it.

I'd love to see the Ravens' reaction. They'd call a time out and then complain to the refs that the Colts did something illegal.

Well, yes & no... it was still an illegal formation so it wouldn't have gotten them a first down even if the Patriots jumped.

The thing of it is, even if we are doing the same things, it's not out there with the spin that "we aren't practicing at all." We also don't release our inactives until the last possible minute, rather than almost immediately after our previous game ends. What's that saying about perception becoming reality? The perception the Colts are giving off is that they've already conceded they aren't winning this game.

Thursday games are so stupid. Monday for recovery, practicing Tuesday on what normally is a walkthrough day. Certainly do not want to practice Wednesday. Colts’ idea does not seem outlandish. Film study and walkthroughs to prepare, otherwise recover.

Plus travel for one team.
