Colts give Brissett $28M, mostly guaranteed in 2020, for no reason

Hoyer got $4M.
Brissett was getting $2M.

Isn’t that a bit of a jump to $28M?

Contract totals matter in this context. At that point Hoyer got a 12 Mi with 9 guaranteed. Brissett had 2 Mi in his sight as you mentioned and a question mark for next year.

yes, better than if they had no quarterback for 2020

They would have been exactly in the same situation next year where they could have tagged JB in the unlikely event he actually plays well or simply extended him for maybe even less.

There was no pressure or reason to do this except rewarding the player. Which is a great story for JB.

Honestly why does this matter if the Colts have a ton of cap space.

Good for Brissett for getting some dough.

.

The Patriots and Belichick stumbled ass backwards into the greatest QB of all time. (They should build 3 statues outside Gillette: Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and **** Rehbein.)

This leads many Patriots fans to lose perspective regarding how difficult it really is to fill the QB position on the roster, so they arrogantly look down upon any QB decision other teams make.

I love Brady. But with all due respect BB coached up Cassel who didn't even play in college, to be an 11win QB in a season who became a pro bowler once, and coached up Garopollo, etc. Maybe he wouldn't have won 6 rings but he would have found another good QB. You're ignoring how good Belichick is at coaching.

Unreal.

Brissett took Indy to the cleaners all by himself.
Seems like the Colts could still release him after this season if he sucks, and opt out of paying him the second part of what they agreed. If he remains a Colt, he would be among the lowest paid starting QBs in the league. Doesn’t seem like he’s taking them to cleaners at all.

No, not at all.

If Brisett is gone next season he only scammed 18 million more than he would have received this season. 20 million for 1 year of Jacoby Brisset is a bargain.

You are also ignoring how good Brady has been. Manning is one of the greatest qbs but Seattle destroyed him in the super bowl. Some of the Super Bowls and the games leading up to the super bowl, only Brady would win those.
Cassel won 11 but we didn’t even go to the playoffs, and our team was loaded, top to bottom.
GP played like what? 2 games and he’s the greatest ever
BB is great, no denying, Cassel is good and people always use his 11 wins to downgrade Brady. If Brady wasn’t hurt we would have won the Super Bowl that year. That’s the difference between a good and a great qb.

People love to point out Cassell won 11 games. What they forget is that that was a 5 game drop off from the previous year.

BB is a sub-.500 HC with all of 1 playoff win in 7 years without Tom Brady. This franchise turned around 180 degrees the day Tom Brady took over, not the day Bill Belichick arrived.

Everything I wrote above is fact. The rest is just speculation.

Yeah you sound a little crazy.

Where did you say he coached for 7 years? In 4 years he took a crappy Browns team to the playoffs beating the Patriots, before the floor disappeared under him with the team moving to Baltimore and ownership changes.

Everything in my post is 100% fact. All you have as a response is that in year 5 of his tenure in Cleveland, the owner announced he was moving the team. Whoop de doo.

In his first 2 years in NE, he was 5-13 before Tom Brady, then 14-3 with him. This franchise turned around 180 degrees the day Brady took over, not the day Belichick arrived. That is an absolute, undeniable fact.

Really basic stuff:

Belichick 1 of 7 seasons in postseason without Brady
Belichick 16 of 17 seasons in postseason with Brady

From 2003-2018 Patriots in postseason every season EXCEPT the one Brady didn’t play.

Who cares that they 2008 went 11-5? They were coming off a 16-0 record and their tiebreakers (mainly record against quality teams) were so bad they didn’t qualify for playoffs. They also lost at home to Pittsburgh and against Rivers Chargers for the only time in dynasty era (both blowouts.)

If only going down from 5 wins (2007 to 2008) isn’t a big deal, I guess people will barely notice if the Patriots go 6-10 this season?

I hate the Colts

In the scenario where he ends up tanking and getting released after this year, banking a cool $18 mil would be great for him.

How about a scenario where he keeps his previous contract and plays lights out for 6 games, takes the Colts 6-0 and then gets injured? He would be a free agent in 2020 and could fetch a Jimmy Garrappolo-like mega deal with the Colts or some other team.

The Colts over paid and Brisset fleeced them.

Gotta love it when meat heads over-simplify complicated situations.
