But we could have had Jones this year and then let him go and gotten a third round comp pick for him. So they really only gained a year and 32 spots by trading him. Brady is 39 and keeping talent around him is more important.
I'll take Thuney for Jones and Mitchell for the Comp Pick right now, thank you very much.

Do you actually think we would get that much for an end of the round #3 next April ?

The trade was Jones for Thuney, Mitchell, Cooper and $4 million in cap space. I think it will end up being a good trade. I don't think Jones would have resigned here with Butler, Collins, Hightower and Sheard needing new contracts. Jones is the easiest to replace out of Butler, Collins and Hightower in my opinion.

The trade was for Cooper and a low second round pick.

Or you can say the trade was to annihilate the stolen 1st.
Some are ranking Thuney already as 1st rounder. Mitchell looks a very sweet bonus.
Together they form a nice postcard from BB with love to the whatshisname.

The trade was the trade, regardless of what happened with the follow up. It was for a second round pick and Cooper.

edit: And, naturally, Andy decided to disagree with basic reality, because he's Andy.

But we could have still done that with the 1st.

That 3rd round pick wouldn't have been for sure, and it would have been two years later. I like the trade, there's no mortgage the future of the team philosophy at all. Plus Jones would ghost in big moments. He got his pressure, but he was never clutch

Cooper's another player who might have been a starter, and has been injured for training camp. Cooper and Vollmer on the line, and Lewis in the backfield.

Unfortunate about Cooper, was actually excited he was part of the deal, think he could of helped if he could just stay healthy.
