BB isn't waiting that long on anybody not named Brady - Gronk or Edelman...we could probably add Collins, Hightower and Butler to that list. The rest see ya!

That or PUP i think. Either way i would be very surprised if he makes the 53 at this point.

Unfortunately he did practice. Very unfortunate: both 1st options @RG Cooper & Mason practiced for couple of days. I guess one (Mason) on 53, one (Cooper) on IR.

@PatsFan2
It was said already: Cooper has all his money guaranteed. Makes no sense to cut him if you can have him on IR. His injury is far from season ending. He can be a nice bonus down the stretch.

EDIT:
The Patriots traded for Jonathan Cooper on March 15, 2016 as part of the Chandler Jones trade. His $1,713,954 roster bonus is due the 5th day of training camp.

Here's Miguel's complete breakdown:

I have issues with using that one IR-DTR on Cooper don't like his history I prefer others.

Too bad they just can't reach an injury settlement with Cooper and jettison his cap hit. That might go down as one of the worst trades in Pats history.

You don't have to name the DTR guy on IR anymore, you can just activate one guy from IR per year

Dante saw him as 1-2 option @RG. If he comes back for the second half of the season and justifies that it can be viewed as a great trade.

The point of the trade as I see it was they decided they cannot keep CJ with all other top FAs, they were not too happy with his edge setting (remember how it leaked), they felt comfortable with Sheard, Nink, Flowers + they could add 2 much cheaper options Long & McC (both showed good things in p-s games).

Most of all they could draft Thuney and Mitchell and we know how we feel about that.

Didn't we also get a 2nd though? So that softens the blow. Chandler Jones (straight up) for a 2nd ain't half bad. Considering he'd be looking for a big payday next year.

But we could have had Jones this year and then let him go and gotten a third round comp pick for him. So they really only gained a year and 32 spots by trading him. Brady is 39 and keeping talent around him is more important.

2nd round picks are more likely to be productive than 3rd rounders.

Plus they save cap $ by trading him.

Chandler Jones determined his own future when he strolled into the Foxborough Police Station stoned out of his freaking mind, bare ass with his Johnson swaying in the breeze several days before a playoff game. They're lucky they got what they did for him. And you know what? He'll f### up again in Arizona sooner, rather than later.

The trade was Jones for Thuney, Mitchell, Cooper and $4 million in cap space. I think it will end up being a good trade. I don't think Jones would have resigned here with Butler, Collins, Hightower and Sheard needing new contracts. Jones is the easiest to replace out of Butler, Collins and Hightower in my opinion.

Given that we have Thuney for 4 years and would have had Jones for just 1, I suspect that Jones for Thuney alone will look like a good trade. Never mind how good Mitchell looked before getting hurt.
