In all the "I'm disappointed" and "Horrible pick" and "It's an idiotic pick" brouhaha, people are overlooking the fact that by trading down a measly 5 spots in the 1st (22 to 27), moved up 6 spots in the 4th (119 to 113) they added a 3rd round pick (90).

This is huge considering that Belichick has said that the heart of the draft, for the Pats, would be in the late 1st through 3rd round.

Now, they have that 3rd round pick and still have the ammunition needed to move around to get the player they are looking for.

I see this as a win for the Pats.

There were a few that predicted that this would happen. Kudos to Belichick for working the board the way he did. He also improved his 4th rounder by 6 slots? May be wrong on that one.

I could see the Pats giving back that third rounder and thier own #53 to move up to #39 and then still have #44 and #47...I would rather see that

Griffen would be my pick with 39

Golden Tate with 44

Brian Price with 47

But what sounds better?

Bryant and a 4th rounder, Odwick, a 3rd and a 4th, Hughes, a 3rd and a 4th or McCourty, a 3rd and a 4th?

Agreed. Even if someone disagrees with the actual selection, you can't deny that if McCourty was the guy we wanted anyway, our draft maneuvering was done very well.

Didn't we have to swap 4th rounders with the Cowboys?

Clearly, in the Pats eyes, it's McCourty, a 3rd and a 4th.

As to what sounds better, clearly the Bryant and a 4th doesn't sound nearly as good as the last two.

Did you ever, once, stop to think that the Patriots know something about Bryant that you don't. Something that CLEARLY took him down below McCourty in terms of VALUE? Or are you going to continue to WHINE like a 2 year old who got told by mommy that you couldn't have the toy you wanted when you went out shopping?

I think Golden Tate should go to the 49ers, just for the karma.

This would be perfect

Absolutely right. BB waved his hands and poof! an extra 3rd Rounder appeared. That would've been an awful long wait from Round 2 to latter-Round 4. I like it a lot and I like the looks of McCourty.

We gave the Cowboys our 119th pick while we got their 90th pick and their 113th pick. Hence, why I said the Pats moved down one spot.

Clearly overlooked, is the ravens got a second , third and a fourth for getting Tebow, while we only gained a fourth for trading with Denver..

We gave the Cowboys our 113th pick while we got their 90th pick. We had gotten the 114th pick from the Broncos last night. Hence, why I said the Pats moved down one spot.

I thought we gave them 119 for 90? We still have 113 from the trade down of 22 to 24. So in essence, we dropped five spots in the first, moved UP 6 in the 4th, and gained a 3rd rounder.

Yeah I like it. I knew before the draft we would be getting into the third round some way so this wasn't a suprise to me. I can't honestly say that I'm that high on the McCourty pick as of right now but if the draft format were to be like this every year prior to 2010, I would be disappointed in all of those years. I'm used to the Pats not picking my guy (which was Odrick) in the first round but they usually make up for it by having a strong overall draft. I hope this is the case again this year.

Would you rather have a third rounder or give up 53 and the 3rd round pick and move on up to 39?

I don't think this is even close

There will be tons of good pass rushers in round 2...make the most of it

Take off round 3 and look for the next RB,OT,ILB and Punter in 4,5 and 6

Umm.. The Ravens traded down, out of the first round, to get that 2nd, 3rd, and 4th pick. They went from 25 to 43. A drop of 18 picks to get their 3rd and 4th round picks..

The Pats dropped 2 spots for their trade with Denver and another 3 spots for their trade with Dallas. Clearly the Pats got the better deal.

Yes, we did.. I was just about to correct it. So much misinformation going around yesterday..

They gained a 3rd round pick, plus they also got an earlier 4th round pick. But, BB is an idiot because he should have not stayed true to his draft board, and instead should have taken Sergio Kindle, who had a knee injury, a DUI charge, suffers from attention deficit disorder (according to the Herald), and Narcolepsy (falling asleep at meetings, for which he's on midication - again according to the Herald).

But, BB is a fool, because this was a need postion.

I spend a 2nd Rounder on Kindle in a heartbeat. I would never spend a 1st on him and his 5.5 sacks. Pah-lease!

I will have to admit that I wouldn't have minded Hughes here.

If we took Odrick or Hughes at 27 I honestly wouldnt be complaining. The pass rush was an immediate need for the team, not CB. The objective of this draft was to get impact players that can be a factor right away because of the holes on the team. By impact I dont mean on ST. We again went the value route, which is fine when you are able to do that with the players you already have on your roster, but when you dont have the roster to go for value and need impact players you cant settle for value

Bingo! We have bingo!
