Clearly overlooked, is the ravens got a second , third and a fourth for getting Tebow, while we only gained a fourth for trading with Denver..

What?
They gave up their first we moved down in the first.
Are you saying a mid 2d, 3d and 4th is better than a 1st and a 4th?

If we took Odrick or Hughes at 27 I honestly wouldnt be complaining. The pass rush was an immediate need for the team, not CB. The objective of this draft was to get impact players that can be a factor right away because of the holes on the team. By impact I dont mean on ST. We again went the value route, which is fine when you are able to do that with the players you already have on your roster, but when you dont have the roster to go for value and need impact players you cant settle for value

I dont understand why you think value is bad?
The bottom line is if you draft the best football player that is on the board, you are better off.
I don't know why we would take a lesser player. You seem to think that you aren't trying if you dont list needs in order and pick players in that order regardless of ability. I dont get that. There are 53 players on a football team.
And by the way, we just drafted a guy that fills a very big need. But for some reason you and others want to use the fact that in addition to being a 1st round corner who immediately is at least our 3rd best corner, the fact the guy will help on special teams makes him worse

I think your distinctions between value and impact are a little off. BB felt there is a need at CB too, and now our defensive backfield is finally fixed I think.

Plus McCourtney will be an impact player in ways that a LB can never be, such as returning and blocking kicks. He's going to be on the field a lot.

Probably the only position where the "best player available" doesn't apply right now is starting QB. Every other position is a position of need. The way you improve over time is to acquire the best talent possible in the draft, not get tunnel vision about what your needs are. We were not "all set" at CB, though I think/hope we are now.

I read somewhere that one NFL general manager said that he thought there 31 draftable cornerbacks in this year's draft, which was an unprecedented number. I'm not criticizing the pick, but to say that there weren't any decent cornerbacks after McCourty may be a bit of a reach.

This is what is left:

Perrish Cox
Brandon Ghee
Chris Cook
Donovan Warren
Amari Spievey
Javier Arenas
Dominique Franks
Trevard Lindley
Akwasi Owusu-Ansah
Syd'Quan Thompson
Then a bunch of developmental types.

Cox and Ghee are probably next in line and there are a bunch of teams (STL, PHI, TB, PIT) with CB as a top need. Then consider that Lindley and Arenas are gas cans and CB was definitely a position to get while the gettin's good. Not the direction I would have gone, but I totally understand it.
