Never understood how this Mr. Peepers dude somehow became an authority on all things NFL, but find his pick at right tackle very interesting.. the best RT in the NFL, Vollmer is good, but all pro good??

Surprised at Clayton's view..

Who is a better RT in the NFL then Vollmer? When you really think about it there isn't someone that you couldn't make the argument that Vollmer is better than.

This article is an especially good example of the "journalist turned analyst" phenomenon. John Clayton made his bones by knowing people who understand football, not by knowing it himself. Now, like Mort or Bedard or others, he has morphed into someone who supposedly knows the game himself. It really is meaningless.

Not contesting it, just surprised as our O line gets continual criticism on all fronts.. never really considered Vollmer an all pro, better than 31 other RT's...

Two Revis's gonna' be hard to throw on.

Agreed, and I am not sure the Patriots can afford 32 million a season to keep him. Highest paid at one CB spot is one thing, at both is another altogether.

The second Revis is actually Gostkowski. Never knew he was that good in coverage.

Vollmer is one of the best RTs in the league but when you look around right now not a whole lot of others stick out. Maybe Marcus Gilbert, Anthony Davis, Ryan Harris and Derek Newton are also in the conversation of top RTs? I don't know.

Off the top of my head, I would take Cherilus, Andre Smith, Marcus Gilbert, Doug Free, and Jake Matthews over Vollmer as of right now. Now, an obviously healthy Vollmer would vault him over a few of those guys, but he isn't healthy right now and hasn't been for a good amount of time.

I don't expect Hightower to be All Pro because it often takes more than one season to get noticed at a position that isn't decided based on yards, touchdowns, sacks, or picks, but clearly that's not Clayton's reason for excluding him because he put a rookie in Hightower's spot.

Hightower probably is on the list if he played 16 games.
