Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

The trade needs to happen, Mankins needs to be removed from the team.

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

I'll believe it when I see it. He's been incorrect more than a few times.

Mortensen has been repeating this for a long time for anybody that would listen. His logic is based strictly on the players seeking to gain a year of accrued service time to become an unrestricted free agent. It makes sense for Jackson, who will need to serve his suspension first, and then be on the roster long enough to have a 5th year.

In my opinion I'm not sold on Mankins either needing another year, or necessarily agreeing to play this season. I'm speculating here, but I'm very doubtful that Mortensen suddenly received new information today from, for example, each of the players agents that they are now planning on returning. I think he's simply reiterating the same thing that he's been saying all along, that both will end up reporting at the last possible moment in order to get another accrued season. Maybe it's a slow news day and ESPN needed to create another headline, so this was it.

ESPN has completely blurred in far too many sports fans minds the difference between facts, and opinions based on rumors, hearsay, whispers planted with a purpose, and speculation.

The problem of course is the $$$.

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

Mankins can't be traded without a contract. Until he signs his tender, the Pats can not trade him.

He has said he WANTS to be traded, if we had a trade with an agreeable contract for him (from the new team) it's a GIVEN that he would sign the tender.

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

What does this mean? Filed what? So what if they each report to their respective teams.

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

I thought I heard a guy on ESPN News as a throwaway last news item say Nov 6 for Mankins. I wasn't really paying attention. I could be wrong.

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

Any possible way to prevent him from getting his accrued season?

Cut off a horse's head and put it in his bed?

I'm in the minority here but it is my belief that he does not need another accrued season to become an unrestricted free agent in 2011.

If he signs his tender he's on the roster for six games and he gets his sixth accrued season. If the Pats cut him he immediately signs elsewhere and still gets his sixth accrued season, plus the Pats get nothing in return in either a trade, or even a compensatory draft pick.

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

It's pretty evident that teams are scared to take on Mankins. Not sure if it is the economics or just how Mankins and his agent may overvalue themselves?

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

This is typical of Mort these days. Contradicts himself half a dozen times in this totally confusing tome... Seems the union has advised them of their respective reporting dates and advised them to do so at the risk of not becoming UFA in the event of a lockout if they don't get their 6 games of credit this season... Mankins is the 16th of Nov. according to what he's reporting the union said, although he contradicts that later in the article to the 24th... Then he claims Jackson is not in line for a one year suspension if he screws up again, rather it would be a 4 gamer...only he just completed a 4 gamer that was reduced to 3 as part of a deal to get his traded... Last week he was reporting the comp pick for Moss had he left as a UFA in 2011 would be a 3, although the rule is clearly nothing over a 5 for a 10 year vet. I think Mort is a couple of years past pasture time...

Sources: Vincent Jackson, Logan Mankins to report to Chargers, Patriots on advice of National Football Players Association - ESPN

Can the Pats Franchise Mankins after this season..??? I am not saying they want him at that salary - but would that not be a way of retaining him to get best possible value for a trade? I am thinking a franchise and trade like they did with Matt Cassel

Mortensen's info is coming from the legal representative of the NFLPA.They are recommending that Mankins and Jackson sign their tenders on the due date, thus accruing FA status in 2011.This.....again according to the NFLPA,will satisfy the terms of the current CBA.

This, also, makes a little clearer the possible scenario of Mankin's not reporting by week 10.I believe the NFLPA is hinting that Mankins would not accrue FA status if he does not sign the tender.

At least that's the way I read it.

Yes they can unless a lockout occurs prior to the end of the league year (which it likely would). Then it won't matter as there won't be any UFAgency - all players not under contract for 2011 will just be in limbo until a new CBA is hammered out. At the moment the issue would be the tag amount, although that didn't stop them with Cassel... OL is not broken down into Guard, Center, Tackle, so the tag for any OLman is basically at the LT rate. Thing is there won't be any CBA rules in effect and owners may change that if the union decertifies (and basically the owners last best offer becomes the CBA in the interim) or they may change that as part of a new CBA...

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

Note that Mankins only needs an accrued season if the rules do not revert back to less-than-six years free agency. Under any other season, Mankins would have been a free agent when his rookie five-year deal expired.

If there is a new collective bargaining agreement that looks anything like the previous deal, presumably there will be free agency at four years. Mankins would be a free agent. Even if eligibility went up to five years, he would be a free agent.

If there is no new CBA, Mankins would presumably continue in limbo, without the ability to sign a new contract and receive a signing bonus.

Re: Chris Mortensen Filed to ESPN Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins will report to

Wasn't that the date we were all expecting him to report by anyway? I think he'll be inactive all those weeks he is here, but I thought we were all expecting him at that time anyways.

I guess the next logical questions would be... Will they (franchise mankins)... My guess is no because if there are no takers they are stuck with a huge contract for a player nobody wants to give a high pick for??
