Well I liked Mayo for the Pats better than Rivers at least. Although 10 seems awful early unless the Pats believe Buffalo was gonna take him. Nobody in picks 10-15 were looking for anything other than OL/RB.
Rivers is even smaller, like 235, and hasn't been noted as the smartest guy.

Detroit picked at 15 and it was one of the worst kept secrets in the draft that they wanted Mayo.

It takes two teams to trade though.

There wasn't anybody on the board for other teams to trade up for really -- except perhaps Mayo himself due to the lack of quality LBs left (next one was Lofton at #37).

Last I checked Wesley Woodyard from Kentucky led the SEC in tackles in 07.

Not according to the NFL.com profiles: 140 to 139.
