I’m honestly surprised this doesn’t happen more often with some of these big boys. Glad he’s ok. Because it was non-contact, he will likely need an internal defib/pacemaker which would be the end of his career.

Premature to speculate without access to medical info that’s subject to privacy protections.

Agreed it doesn’t look good for his career. But that was also true for Tedy. So best to wait and see.

Bru was the first thing I thought of when I saw this. What a beast Bruschi was.

That happened to one of my friends on the golf course, he's a big guy and has a defib/pacemaker that he has to wear for life.

SCA happens only under VERY specific conditions. With Hamlin, and a number of baseball players, it’s sudden violent impact at the exact wrong moment in the cardiac cycle disrupting rhythm. Otherwise, usually caused by thickening of the heart muscle itself (esp left ventricle) due to size, hyper training, steroids (bodybuilders/powerlifters usually), or occasionally a genetic issue leading to a problem with electrical pathway.

Very rarely, a virus causes cardiomyopathy and then leads to electrical issue (cardiac arrest).

In a large football player, thickened ventricle is VERY likely the cause. No cure for that, but it can be managed and he can live a long time…just not playing football.

Bruschi (my all-time fav) suffered a stroke due to a congenital defect where he had a hole between compartments of the heart…threw a clot. Once fixed, he was good.

Original report said he seized first, then went into cardiac arrest. Could that indicate that the cardiac arrest was effect not cause, that the underlying cause was something entirely different? Neurological? Blood chemistry whacked out?

Technically severe dehydration COULD cause both, as could certain severe electrolyte disturbances.

I read about the Marines Commandant having cardiac arrest while on his daily run. He was lucky that a passerby was a CPR instructor who saved his life.

COVID related Myocarditis?
Or the vax. Post pandemic one or the other of those is the cause of all bad things health related. Which it is depends on whether politically you lean commie or fascist.
