says he's gone from 250 to 270...I haven't got the link yet but will put it up when it comes available

edit: not ESPN...it's the Pats radio station on P.com

Good news: he has the frame to support it, and I bet he'll be able to add that strength without sacrificing much, if any, burst. Besides, the strength of his game is in his ability to take on and shed blockers, not blow past them at the snap, so on that level this just makes sense.

I remember him saying after the draft last year that he kept himself at a lower weight leading up to the draft so that he could either go in as a DE or OLB, depending on who picked him and what they wanted from him. Sounds like he's used this offseason to get to the ideal size for the role that the Patriots want him to play.

also said he's been boxing with some of his brothers coaches. Hand speed is probably the most underrated aspect of the trenches. If he gets those long arms on a tackle first its over.

sorry I screwed the thread title up....somebody post the link when it comes available.

yes, exactly what the majority of Pats fans have been asking for this offseason...the next step up by Jones....20 pounds of muscle and refinement of techniques? I'm IN for the whole enchilada...

Drop some 'bows on the QB.

generally elite passrushers come on in their 2nd year...im expecting big things from Chandler Jones this year

Well, the book on his coming out of the draft was that he needed to gain about 20lbs and when he did, he could be a monster. He fulfilled the first part. Let's home he fulfills the second part.

Jared Allen: 6'6 270
JPP: 6'5 278

Hopefully Jones can become either one of them.

Hopefully he becomes "C" Jones..and "J" Collins completes the CJV D...and feel free to bash me unabashedly for being a gaa gaa eyed homer...I am....imagine..a real pass rush at last

Being exceptionally skilled with his hands is also something that was billed as one of his top talents coming out of college. Athleticism + extreme measurables + intense training = I could easily see him being damn near unblockable this year. I agree with your take on this, and I think he's going to be an absolute monster.

I'd like to think that I'm not prone to hyperbole around here, but I honestly believe that we're going to see him mirror Jason Pierre-Paul's jump from year 1 to year 2. I think that he'll be in the running to lead the league in sacks this year. There are too many elite pass rushers in the league right now to confidently predict that he'll lead the league, but I think he'll be right up there, with 15+.

Do you think that Collins will line up at defensive end? Just wondering.

Don't sleep on Hightower, either. His sack total from last year is a lot more impressive when you consider that he missed a few games and was used sparingly as a rusher. If the Pats commit to sending him after the QB with any regularity, I could definitely see him getting 7-8 sacks.

This is one of the most intriguing questions going into this season, IMO. It'll be really interesting to see where he ends up lining up. My guess is that we'll see him play some 3-4 OLB and some 4-3 DE, but that he'll primarily be a 4-3 OLB.

in my homeristic bliss I was only thinking of Collins rushing from one side and CJ from the other...yes, I'm hoping Collins can blitz effectively from the OLB position...AND in my haste I DID overlook Beastly McBeasterson, our own Highlightower...inside gaps, edge...I want a damn RUSH!!! I want the Flaccos of the league to feel the pressure and GET HIT HARD!!!!

man, I hope THIS is the season...

Ok putting on 20 lbs muscle in only a few months seems a little odd to me. Didn't the Pats season end sometime in Jan? So from Jan. to May he put on that much muscle or so called weight?

it's almost four months...Feb, March, April,May 24th

I went from 185 to 225 in six months when I was 22 doing 20 rep squats as a core and chest twice every seven days...and did it clean, just protein powder and high protein diet.

These players are pros with all the methods to build at their disposal...this doesn't seem odd at all for a guy 6'5".

He's put on 20lbs in muscle since coming into the NFL, he's only put on 10lbs since last season. He stated he went from 260lbs to 270lbs.

I just hope he can stay healthy. It seems like that's only thing that could slow him down. He seemed very much NFL ready last year imo.

Jones has already shown his potential and now he is bulking up and getting a full offseason to continue to learn his role and hone his skill. This guy very well should be a solid starter for us again and the sky is the limit he could really turn into a difference maker for us.

For a team that has been so close the last two years he is definitely one guy to keep an eye on as a piece that could push us over the top.
