Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

It's funny how picks have played out. For the last few years, teams have been trading them away like they are nothing. But you look at the salary cap/luxury tax, and now having picks looks really smart. only way to stay under the cap.

The NBA parity rules suck.
Like the NFL, that's what they want:
No dynasties.
The NFL rules suck as well but the NBA has just carried it to an extreme.
MLB is much better on this than both of the above.
But it is what it is and having a very sharp guy in charge is even more important now. Thank God for Stevens.
What the Patriots did from 2001- 2018 is just incredible and will likely never be duplicated. The fact they achieved it during the salary cap era is even more incredible. That's why it's the greatest dynasty in NFL history by a long shot.
C's will be a playoff team in 2026 just because of DWhite and JB.
We'll see about 2027. Achilles is no joke.
But KD returned from it better than ever and JT is younger than Durant was.
Also a better athlete. So there's hope.
The heat beat us in 7 in 2023 and they were a play-in team. As far as the current roster is under construction. I feel that we need to hold on to Simons at least through this upcoming season. He is a scorer and can better. We need bench scoring so Pritchard excels there.

JB has off season surgery.. he will need time to fully recover. D white is pivotal for this team. He should not be moved whatsoever. Going to have to get something from Davidson and Quata. There's still moves to be made.. I trust Brad to have this team competitive. We got a ring with porzingas and Jrue.. both great people and player.. we knew that the contracts were an issue. So no surprise there. The Minnot pick up was a huge move by Brad as this kid is a talented player with tremendous upside.

What the Cs did in the draft was fine. 2nd rounders are basically your 6th or 7th round NFL prospects. Some make the roster and become decent role players. Some go to the PS/ D League, and some become stars. Most become nothing.

Brad isn't done by a long shot. More trades coming. More salary to be dumped.

Best news I've heard is JB will be 100% by camp.
Minnot and Simons are two young guys with tremendous upside that could really thrive here with Mazzulla. I really love the Minnot move myself.

It is Minott.
Thank you one!.. saw some local reporting that Cs should move off of Simons.. nah.. keep him.. need all the talent to get through the season without JT.. gotta start developing these guys we drafted as well.. Davidson, Quata.. for example

it'll be interesting to see how mazulla does with young guys. hasn't really been his M.O. although that makes sense given the makeup of the team. Some coaches are more vet guys and some are more young guys. We'll see.

Mazzulla was on the staff under Ime.. so he played a integral part of helping PP and JT specifically with development last few seasons.

We need the organization as a whole to really start developing guys like Davidson, Quata who have shown flashes... then again sometimes guys just need playing time.

Yes! Thank you! I don't know why it was bothering me.
And it's pronounced My-not and Simons as in "Simons says" and Davison with no "d" after the "i" and Queta with an "e"
Ok, I had to get that off my chest. Carry on.
But don't ask me to spell Scheierman though. He's from the Shire so just call him the Hobbit or Frodo.

Simons is not cheap.

Simons is not cheap.
He's on an expiring contract and the C's also have a trade exception (not sure of the exact amount, somewhere around $14) they can/have to use by a certain date in 2026. It's complicated due to their prior second apron penalties.
Anyways, they could possibly use that, along with Simons salary and get a player (likely a big) if Tatum returns by March and the C's somehow land Lillard and he returns around the same time. They can sign Lillard for the mid-level $5M (since they're now under the 2nd apron) or so, since Milwaukee is paying most of his salary. Hauser will likely need to moved though.
There is also a rumor the C's are looking into re-acquiring the always IR Rob Williams. When healthy we know what he can do. He's also on an expiring contract ($14M) so no biggie if he gets hurt again.

I hate the idea of adding Lillard. If they’re going to though, they’d need to trade Brown. There’s really no point of having 3 high paid shot creators. Lillard’s defense sucks too.

Yea i'm not excited about it either.

In other news, SGA's supermax just got nailed down.

Me no like.

As I mentioned, if he comes to Boston it’s going be on the veteran mid-level exemption, which is a little over $5M. Milwaukee bought him out and they pay most of his salary so no reason for Lillard to try and sign a lucrative contract.

At this point if DL did come here it's a 1 year rental on a mercenary contract to get a ring.. I see him going elsewhere primarily on the west coast where his family is..

Just curious why we're still in this topic instead of the new one? If we want to only have one topic for all things Celtics, maybe we should have Ian rename them and merge them all together?

Good question. I thought we were but someone might have bumped that thread by mistake and the rest weren’t paying attention, so here we are. This should be closed I agree.
