Celtics 2024-2025 Discussion

Thoughts on the moves today RW??...
They had to trade Jrue. I think age is finally catching up with him. He wasn't worth the money anymore.

KP was also a must-move...but I'm not sure they would have done it if JT was healthy and he played 75 games a year.

Agreed there. I feel like the KP move was imminent as well. With Chisholm wanting to stay under that apron and reset the roster some. JTs injury definitely factors in. I really like the Simons pick up i think he's the starting PG. Muzz and his staff will definitely work with him on his defense. Keeping Luke is important, al probably retires and Quata will have more opportunities. The niang pick up is a underrated move. Guy can defend, rebound and hit the 3.. good bench depth move by Brad.

Niang replaces Hauser if that's what they want to do.

Simmons is ok. Wish he was a bit more efficient from the field - especially from 3.

They need two bigs that can rebound and block shots. Also need a guard that passes/creates first.

If they can nail those roles down, draft a day 1 contributor, and JB has a All NBA year they might have a shot at 50 wins.

What's with the trade Hauser thing? The coach is clear that his defense is just fine, that he's not a liability there. Seems like keeping a few guys around who know the rotations will be useful.

Salary. Nothing more. I like Hauser.

So far, the C's brass is doing what I thought they would do. Jrue was not worth the money, especially with 3 more years left on his current contract, and KP just couldn't stay on the floor. Both of their salaries are better off on someone else's cap. I wish them well. Thanks for the championship season last year.

I hope they don't trade Hauser. He's going to be needed to replace some of Tatum's points & his defense has improved a lot these past few years. I could see both PP & Hauser playing a lot next year.

The trade I was hoping for doesn't appear to be happening so I'll keep it to myself. That said, I don't think they're done. I do hope Niang gets packaged up in the next deal. I don't see how I can cheer for that guy. It's like when the Bruins picked up Chris Nilan, the guy who butt-ended Rick Middleton in the face. I was never able to root for him even when he wore the spoked B.

I like what Simmons brings as a scorer and he can dish it off, he's selfless and a team guy from what I saw on him. I like Pritchard in the 6th man role that he's in. Definitely need a big man or 2.. quata could be part of the rotation. I expect a different offensive philosophy this upcoming season. We need to let guys like Shciereman, Davidson get some run this season instead of just spot mins. I feel like it was coaching redundancy not playing sheimrman at all in the playoffs.

Simons (as in Simon says) shoots .381 (.365 last year on over 8 attempts) from 3. How much more efficient do you want him to be? He was their top scorer. Not saying defenses focused on him more than others but he still shoots threes better than JB and JT at a high volume.
His eFG% needs to be better, I'll agree with that but I don't think 3-point shooting is his weakness.
I'm just going by the stats. I don't see too many Blazers games for obvious reasons so I don't really know that much.

I was hoping they might get more draft picks ... Jaylen for a bevy of picks? Doesn't seem to be any up-and-coming talent. Sucking for a few years is one way to get good picks, but it's painful.

That account is labeled "PARODY Account."

And the source on that Xitter post hasn't posted in ~3 years.
Yeah, I saw another account that posted about same trade, only this one stated it was for Jonathan Kuminga so I ran with it.
I think what's taking long is that Brad Stevens is trying to get into the lottery. He has his eye on the Lithuanian kid from Illinois (Jakucionis). Maybe it's a deal with Utah/Danny Ainge.
I'll take the L right now since no other sources have confirmed this trade. Just don't call me Tomase, please
But Charania did say last night to expect some huge news today. Possibly after the lottery picks are made or half way through the draft.

This is a great option to have if/when needed. I know these things have an expiration date but it's such a luxury.

Niang has about 3 years, 24M on his contract, whereas Porzingis has 1 year, 30M

So the total contract liability is pretty similar but the annual amount helps the Celtics a lot. Of course, they lose a guy with the potential (if healthy, even though unlikely) to be a very good player and receive a depth chart guy in return.

All in all, I see where these teams like this deal. KP is off the books in one year. C’s get cap relief and can absorb an 8M cap hit to Niang even if he sucks.

Makes a lot more sense than the insane Blazers trade, which the Celtics won hands down.
I think Brad might flip him. I don't think HE even likes Niang. Nobody does.

He shot 36% from 3. Need over 40%. As you say his eFG % is also not great.

They better keep Kornet. After everything else, that might be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

MFFL Nation: If I’m Nico Harrison, I’m at least calling the Celtics and seeing what the asking price is on Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser…Both of those guys could make solid impacts for the Mavs.

Zach Ciavolella: Do you want to lose Cooper Flagg? Because that's how you lose Cooper Flagg.
