Murano has been a world class glassmaking center since the days when the Doge imposed a death sentence on any gaffer who tried to abscond with trade secrets. Murano glass is generally recognizable because it is excessively frilly and delicate. I have a few pieces in my art glass collection. They’re really neat.
We had a vase we bought in Murano that someone knocked over during our SB 49 watch party. Still haven't replaced it. I was shopping online for Christmas this year for one and the prices are insane.
The wife & I spent 3-4 days in Venice in March of 2022 as part of a trip to Italy that included Rome - Florence - Venice - Rome by train; that part of the country had only recently been fully open for business it seemed: far smaller crowds than I had heard from others who had been there pre-covid, even in March... Good for us though... One of those afternoons was spent touring the Murano Glass factory on one of the nearby islands; impressive, and they have a bunch of pictures on their walls of their more-famous customers: musicians, actors etc... We ended-up buying a smaller piece, a dolphin in a classic snout & tailfin touching the water pose, for our dining room back in Hershey... Depending on the light, the piece changes color as you walk around the table in shades of blues & oranges inside the clear body; pretty cool.
Also good news on the Doorman. We want no part whatsoever of watching Any of our other DBs besides the starting 5.
