Cam expected to start on MNF

Qb is 90% of the problem.
The RBs have 305 carries for 1448 yards in 14 games. That’s a 4.7 you and over 100 a game and you call them AT BEST INCONSISTENT while defending the worst QB in the league. Unbelievable.

What’s not unbelievable and actually quite predictable is you putting “90%” of the failure of this team on Cam Newton while ignoring the fact your hall of fame coach/not-so-much GM has fielded one of the worst receiving corps of all time.

And yet he continues to start and your buddy Stid stays on the bench.

Ain’t rocket science folks. No need to overthink why that’s happening. If Stid was good or had potential to be good then that wouldn’t be happening. Period.

Truth hurts.

I don’t think it’s out of the question that Cam is back in 2021. But this kind of passing game we got from him is not getting us any further than week 17 in any year.

Are the receivers why Cam is bouncing balls 3 yards in front of them, or 2 feet over their head?

You may be right.

But in that case, Belichick deserves to be criticized for rostering a QB that is so bad that he’s worse than someone who has 5 TD’s and 10 INT’s.

Have you actually watched any of the games, especially during the second half of the season?

I was a Cam supporter, loved his attitude (still do) and energy but it’s been a horror show. He locks onto his primary WR (which has lead to an unacceptable number of batted passes by D-lineman for a 6’6” QB), has obvious problems reading defenses and often fails to change plays/protections at the line, almost never extends plays with his legs and rarely makes an accurate throw on screens/dump offs that any average D1 QB should be able to make 95% of the time (many have been comically bad throws).

The offense with him at QB is basically unwatchable at the point. We all agree that it is not entirely his fault but his play for the most of the 8+ weeks has not been NFL backup quality, let alone starter quality.

Yeah, Cam has plenty of blame for the struggles, and I think his throwing shoulder has permanent damage since 2018. But to put it all on him is laughable. The guy I quoted doesn’t know much about football but thinks he knows better than Bill Belichick. Just pointing out his lunacy, that’s all.

I'm just pissed. I don't care if Cam leads an amazing comeback drive and beats the Bills, he shouldn't be playing. No one else but the most stubborn ego-driven BB would start a useless lame duck QB in the last 2 weeks of a burnt season - that was burnt because of the useless QB that he penciled in at the last minute after not wanting to admit he screwed up the transition of two of the greatest players in team history back to back (Brady & Gronk). It helps no one to play Cam, it does nothing for our young pass catchers to get a bit of work under their belt before next year. We're going to get run over by the Bills while Cam buries his head forward for 2 yards at a time and throws stupid 1 yard screens into the ground on 3rd and 10. I've seen enough. BB would rather burn it to the ground than admit error.

He’s become Sheldon from the Big Bang theory would rather go down losing than admitting he was wrong or he failed.

Cam starts and BB “sees how it goes.” BB wants to win the game and Cam probably gives him a better shot at that. I think that’s all it is.

Y r you all seriously losing your minds over the most obvious move?

Putting Stidham in would amount to nothing except exposing a young, unprepared QB to game film all around... a QB, mind you, that didnt have a whole season to get used to the playbook and to pick up game rhythm

Not to mention the fact that leadership is something that we look for in our players: Newton, for better or worse, became a leader quickly. Stidham didnt grow in that role (yet)

The only rational explanation to put Stidham in was if BB wanted to please the masses so THEY could see what Stid is able to do,buuut bc he is smart enough to know that whatever data he gets out Stid these last games, it's all going to be too biased bc of the many factors in play to have any real value... although nowadays he's already is giving out too much info sometimes, but still, thats not his style generally

anyways, Im looking forward to see Cam play, There is some chance he is back next season and if he plays well, who knows

Because you have a lot of people who are desperate who aren’t used to a losing season and want action that is likely futile because they don’t like what they have. They’ll say Cam should not be starting but give no reason why Stidham has done anything to deserve to besides some vague idea that he has to be better (he hasn’t been) and that because Bill hasn’t started him he is incapable of knowing what he has (that’s never been true of the common thought in any level of football).

A lot of it is just hope that we aren’t actually as poor at the most important position as any reasonable look at the evidence would have you believe.

We have 3 bad options at QB but one is a successful vet who has had success in the league, contributed to our run game, and has the locker room and the other is a never was who can’t beat out a has been. That’s where we are at.

It’s always the simplest explanation. When you have to jump into some conspiracy about the coach not wanting to be proven wrong or whatever you are probably just overthinking it or want to justify why the coach isn’t agreeing with your assessment on the matter.

Twenty out of the 53 were limited due to injury Thursday. Mack to Covid reserve.

Here's a list of Cam's Pass Attempt Numbers since 2011

517 - 485 - 473 - 448 - 495 - 510 - 492 - 471 - 89 - 328*

* denotes this season

Cam is attempting way less passes than he ever has in his career, besides last season when he started only two games ..

Its almost like Bill and McD understand that you cannot ask this group of WR's and TE's to consistently be better than the secondaries they play against.

You're talking 75 overall WR's on Madden vs. secondaries with players of at least 80 overall on Madden .. but damn Cam, why aren't you finding your targets?

All of Cam's 'dirt balls' are purposefully thrown that way in order to avoid an INT .. because the DB is abusing the NE receiver .. what's new?

Tom Brady had a completely different defense here, last season. And last season, Brady had Edelman in the line up - who Cam has not had, but when Cam did, Edelman had a career day receiving!

Brady here, all else being exactly the same, Pats are 4-12 .. Cam is going to have this team 8-8

If they start Pick Six Stidham I’ll find something else to do. I have no interest watching a stiff who won’t even be in the NFL in a year or two. I mean... the guy wasn’t even good enough to beat out Hoyer before the season. LOL. And people want to see what this guy has. LOL.

People talked about Brady and the lack of weapons and this year with Cam too to a lesser extent. What if the Pats made a genuine attempt to fix that problem this offseason - then how would Cam look? I’m not saying he should come back but it’s not out of the question that he might if that’s the plan.

Well, Cam is definitely a problem too. Brady intentionally threw dirt balls instead of forcing the issue and getting INTs last year. It allowed him to live to play another down. Cam has thrown dirt balls when guys are actually even somewhat open, hospital balls, and forced those throws that Brady usually didn’t which has resulted in a high amount of turnovers. The receiving corps is just absolutely terrible. No doubt about that. But Cam isn’t completely without fault, either. But he’s out there because, in spite of how bad the receivers are and he’s been, he gives the team the best chance to win. Occam’s Razor.

Stid’s a pocket passer, and not a very good one at that. We put him in there and he’s either getting killed due to holding the ball too long, or it’s going the other way. The offense simply isn’t tailored to his strengths.

I wish they created an offense to use Cam’s strengths and to lessen the impact of the weak WR corps. Maybe with the circumstances of the season it was too much to ask. But if he is back in 2021 what we’re seeing now is not acceptable.
