Belichick mentioned the bye in the post game press conference. I always think it's a factor. For last 3 years the patriots have come out of the bye sluggish and not ready to hit. While acknowledging the Patriots planned to attack the Colts 3-4 by overloading the edges, I wonder if Bill also had two other things in mind. The Patriots own physicality coming off the bye (ie don't play a passing finesse game after the bye) and second, the Colts were not ready for smash mouth after the bye.

It is really hard to believe an NFL team could be that bad against the run without additional explanatory factors.
 
What he also talked about with respect to the bye was self scouting.
He said (paraphrasing) they had fun on the field Wednesday and in the film room Tuesday looking at themselves and considering how they would attack this team if they played them.
That's BB. Takes the bye to try to figure out how to beat his own team, then go fix the problems.
