Josh knows so much more about offense that us fans that he could lead the Rams to last place in offense averaging less than ten a game. This season they have already scored more points than they did in 6 games with Josh, and this without any major additions to their offense and with Schottenheimer as their 0- coordinator.
So basically you are saying Josh doesn't know more about the offense than us forum members? Guess someone here should send in their resume to the Pats front office.
Mike Lombardi was talking about Hernandez/Welker/Edelman on WEEI this morning.
His take on Welker/Edelman was effectively this:
Given the way McDaniels was using Hernandez (i.e. with much more diversity than last year - often using him as a slot receiver) that what the Patriots need more than having TWO slot WRs (Hernandez and Welker) was to have someone else running an outside route opposite Lloyd.
Lombardi's take is that, Edelman is better on the outside than Welker is - and that this is why, given the game plan and available personnel of the first game in particular, that you'd see Edelman getting more looks than Welker.
Now, with Hernandez out, one would think that Welker regains his position as the primary slot receiver.
IMO fans often confuse themselves by looking at stats and proclaiming someone like Welker (or Troy Brown in the early 2000s) as "the #1 WR"
They may have caught the most passes, but neither Welker nor Brown were EVER #1 WRs.
That's a role for someone who can stretch the field and run deep outside routes - something that we are hoping Lloyd can do. Many fans confuse themselves by equating #1 WR with the WR who catches the most passes when that's not really the case.
After that, regardless of how many passes they catch, a slot WR is a role player, and it behooves the team to keep defenses honest by adding someone like Hernandez or Edelman to that mix rather than allowing defenses to always key on Welker.
I think these criticisms of how McDaniels is using Welker will subside now that Hernandez is out. No other TE on the team can do what he does and Welker will go back to being asked to do what he does so well.
