Building The 2026 OL

Not open for further replies.
Can we talk 2025 OL first? Or has every 2025 position group discussion thread already been posted?

We are in a 2-3 year rebuild. Who is our OL for the 2026 run at the division. Presumably, we'll add a couple net year, and perhaps in 2026.

For now, our status quo of the future OL is

Wallace, Sow, Andrews, Robinson (needs to add some weight), Onwenu
(Mafi)

We will add more upgrades in 2025 and perhaps 2026.
Judon - Barmore - Dugger and Gonzo all disagree.

@mgteich

I really can't see how we can have a look at 2025 with '24 not even underway yet. We don't know how the team will fill out, nor do we know how any of the draft prospects will do in their respective seasons.

However...

Here's a partial list of free agent OTs:

1) Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2) Taylor Decker, Detroit Lions
3) Alaric Jackson, Los Angeles Rams
4) Spencer Brown, Buffalo Bills
5) Tyron Smith, New York Jets
6) Garett Bolles, Denver Broncos
7) Ronnie Stanley, Baltimore Ravens
8) Cam Robinson, Jacksonville Jaguars
9) Jedrick Wills Jr., Cleveland Browns
10) Morgan Moses, New York Jets

and a partial list of IOLs:

1) Creed Humphrey, Kansas City Chiefs
2) Zack Martin, Dallas Cowboys
3) Sam Cosmi, Washington Commanders
4) Quinn Meinerz, Denver Broncos
5) Trey Smith, Kansas City Chiefs
6) Drew Dalman, Atlanta Falcons
7) Teven Jenkins, Chicago Bears
8) Will Fries, Indianapolis Colts
9) Robert Hainsey, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
10) James Daniels, Pittsburgh Steelers

Seems awful early to be looking ahead as fans. I'd like to see how this team rounds out. Whatever they are on opening day won't be the same as who they are Jan 1.
I guess we are on different tracks.

In starting to build a 2025 by seeing what we start with now, I have no need to know what OL's might be available as free agents next year.

In looking at this roster, I try to see how our current players might fit in next year.

Who knows, perhaps this is not Andrews' final season.

“I took some time and got away and spent some time with my family, much needed. That desire was still down in there to wanna get up and go train and do all the things I need to do to take care of myself."
Getting ready for a different type of season ahead seemed to have Andrews energized as well. With head coach Jerod Mayo and a new offensive staff in place, he described feeling a sense of eagerness to be part of the franchise's new beginning.
“Obviously with the changes and everything, getting to talk to Mayo, sit down with him, talk to him, I was very excited to be a part of something new, a change," Andrews said. "But hopefully trying to figure it out and start something new and start something good. Being a part of that process, that was something I was excited about.”
Having a 10-year center and longtime captain who has seen just about all there is to see in football along for another ride? Should make everyone's life at One Patriot Place a little easier.

This is a TWO yr. Rebuild. No longer. Remember that the worst OLmen win 80+% of their snaps and the best are over 90. It is hard to be viewed as good when you have to beat the strongest, great athletes who can run sub 4.7 40's over NINETY percent of the time. Think about it . OL is a thankless position as well as being the one of the most important.

You cannot write off Strange until we see him healthy. He has been effective for the most part, when healthy.

The current offensive squad is full of very good but not great talent. It SHOULD be enough for the Pats to be competitive in at least 13 games this year. In other words they are good enough to be entertaining, and, as fans, that SHOULD be enough as long as we see gradual improvement over the course of the year.

If we see THAT I would expect the addition of two or 3 first week FAs and two or 3 draft picks that can contribute immediately, and the team SHOULD be able to be realistic contenders for a playoff berth.

That is what I'm looking for over the next 2 years, followed by expecting multiple playoff wins starting in year 3.

State, what does any of this have to do with the here and now? All of this is about the Belichick regime. If you had said this last November it would have been completely relevant, now it has nothing to do with this team. The criticism is valid, but only in a historical context. This is a new regime, with new players, coaches, and direction, and at this point that’s all that matters.
So whodafuc is our LT? Mosquito Cal? Chuks a disgruntled MAC LT and nfl RT? or Caedan Maybe a talented RT making the transition to the pros and going to be asked to switch sides for the first time?

Are you kidding me?

This is the way the Jets operated and ruined Darnold and Wilson before they went LT this draft—and he may just be a back up this season.

Rebuilding starts upfront.

Your post was entirely fixated on the moves the Belichick regime made, not on the moves this front office made. I have no problem with you criticizing the moves this regime has made, but talking about the moves that came under Belichick has nothing to do with it.

No team goes anywhere without a franchise QB, and giving away the 3rd pick in the draft for 11l/2 picks is a ****ty deal. First of all you are swapping the 3rd pick for one substantially worse, then you are getting a late first round pick, then you are getting a 1st next year, , which is the equivalent of a 3rd round pick. Only a moron would make that deal, and I’m really glad Wokf isn’t a moron.
