Browns trade Shelton to Patriots

I'm ok on Dine now now we need outside pass rushers.
Maybe one more piece to the secondary

A few random thoughts on this trade:

a) We have to look at this trade from a different viewpoint than Browns fans. They say he is overrated from the viewpoint of being the #12 pick in 2015. We are losing 40 spots I believe in the middle of the draft. There is some risk with the possibility of a good reward at He end.

2) with being the #12 pick in the draft, maybe he was asked to do more than he was capable (just spitballing here). I think he'll come New England and have a defined role and prove effective.

And d) Maybe they are gonna turn it around an hopefully so, but playing for Cleveland is a career sucking drain that can take a toll on anyone's career. Hopefully New England will provide a jumpstart to his career.

Just an opinion from a Pats fan in Southern Illinois.

Does he fully understand Shelton's role? There's a good chance your pal doesn't think he makes enough impact plays for a 12th overall pick and is thus biased against him. Fans very often hold the price paid to acquire a player against the player (we do this here, too). The Pats are not using the 12th pick to acquire him. He played nose for one of the best run defenses in the league last year. He's 24, and has had 3 coordinators in 3 years, including moron and human garbage can Gregg Williams. Here he'll play a role and I'd wager play it very well. He's also a proud young man who has overcome some major personal tragedy so I'm pulling for him.
It is certainly possible that he has a biased view. What i can argue is that I do know that he understands the game very well, so he most probably knew what Sheltons' role was.

Again, it's ok to disagree with me, i certainly hope he is a great player for us, but i don't think he will be.

In the future, we can finish this discussion

Pretty good acquisition.

What pick did we give up for him?

Moved down by 40 spots in 2019 and moved pick into this year.

Exchange of our 3rd (end of the round) in 2019 for the Browns 5th (top of the round) in 2018. Get a third comp back for Butler in 2019 most probably anyway.

Pats are just doing what they try to do every year: fill the major gaps in the roster before the draft, so they can go BPA when their turns come.
They do this every year, and despite that, the fans start off February with absolute certainty about the positions the Pats have to go after in the upcoming draft. By the time the draft comes around, most if not all of those positions have been addressed.

Par for the course.
