Sooooo typical OTA in May....hardly chaos.
My point is that Caleb clearly got flustered playing against pressure in OTA's. That is the context in which the word "chaos" was first brought up.

Why would there ever be "panic" in no pressure/non-contact basic route running exercises?

Is he dodging potential sack artists in his virtual reality simulations?

If so........

I think a lot of people have this same thought and I don't think it's fair to Maye or the process to Hold Mac Jones against him.

That combined with the talk of him needing some work on footwork and mechanics and I think we've unfairly pigeon holed him to the bench. In essence making it some sort of massive mistake to play him too soon.

I say don't rush him and be cognizent of his mechanics but like any position battle you put him up against his peers and once he proves he knows the system and beats out the other guys at his position I don't see how or why you would hold him back.
Agree here. While I've taken in everything in totality. Herbert had rivers to sit behind, Rodgers had farve.. we don't have anyone close to that magnitude of a QB for Drake to sit behind.. if the QB play is erroneous like last season then that change things.

In my young and single days I was good with numbers and wouldn't write down a lady's numbers when I asked for one. They were always impressed when I called them the next day.

I hope Mayo is as infatuated with Maye as Breer is. That would be a very good sign.
I wrote it down but always got a girl named Jenny

I think it makes sense to keep him on the bench for at least a handful of games so he can get a good sense of real game speed, game flow, and all the things that happen in a game from the sidelines without having to do it himself. He would get the opportunity to observe and ask questions of his coaches between plays. Then after he has a good feel for it all he can step in.

Not just so Maye can get up to speed, but also so the brand new head coach, OC, offensive assistants, and rookie OL/WR can get a few games under their belts. That way, when Maye does step on the field, he's coming into a (hopefully) ironed out operation and can fold himself into it, rather than trying to learn the job AND parse through all the growing pains.

In Mac's rookie year, you had new skill position players, but the OL and coaching staff were all established on the team. I think Mayo, AVP, and the rooks are going to need some time to get their feet wet.

Did the Patriots ruin Mac Jones? YES. But what I think we’ve learned is that Mac was easy to ruin because he lacked mental toughness in the face of adversity.

The early signs and background on maye in college suggest he’ll push through early adversity much better than Jones.

Right. I watched Stroud’s first series against the Patriots in the preseason that ended in a horrible interception. I said bust.

Oops.

Players are going to meet adversity at this level at some point, unless you’re Lawrence Taylor I guess. It’s how they respond from it that determines how successful they’ll be. In Stroud’s case, he learned from what he did wrong that first preseason game. That’s exactly what he needed to do.

"What they've found since they've got him in the building is that he has almost no footwork training...".
How does someone like Maye get to this level in high school and college with no footwork training?

That roster is stacked.
If Caleb can’t play at a high level with that team
Than Daniel’s or Maye should have been the number 1 pick.
The fact Bill was reportedly 100 percent in on Daniel’s makes me feel we made the right choice.
I was disappointed that BB wasn’t behind Maye as the pick.

If BB was in charge I assume we would have traded the pick when Maye fell to us.

?? Jones was 6 of 9 for 52 yards and no touchdowns last preseason. 2 sacks. Everybody said the offense looked terrible.
Youz must be new in these parts.

People were dancing on the roof last preseason because Billy Bob Obrien was the OC.

The most significant piece for me is that the coaches are wowed by how he does not panic AT ALL, how he is calm in chaos. You can see that to a degree in his tape but it is confirmed in person for them now. That’s a huge change from Mac and very valuable. It means even if the OL doesn’t hold up, or he has to go further into his progressions than planned or scramble, he can do it all with a clear mind.
That was one of Brady's best traits

Not to pee in your cheerios, but it's easy to be calm when you know you're not going to be hit. It's obviously positive news. However, we won't know and neither will they, until the game lights turn on and very large humans are trying to hit him very hard.

Yeah, I think they mean, footwork training the way they want it done, we know he had footwork training because they talked about how they completely changed the type of offense and had to teach him different footwork to fit the system last year.

However, he didn’t need to have his left foot forward out of the shotgun, and he was rarely under center, throwing the ball. So that foot work would be all new.
He had good footwork throwing, except, like all quarterbacks, when there was pressure.

Lazar commented that they haven’t seen him spray the ball or have accuracy issues on the short throws which scouts said he had at UNC
Of course he didn’t have either of those issues, he had a couple plays here and there but apparently there’s a reason scouts can’t scout college QB’s.

So now Breer is reporting the Patriots are seeing him go through his reads, not panic, and have incredible accuracy on deep balls. Since I watched every throw, he had all those things already and the tape showed it so I’m not sure what the big surprise is and it will be no surprise when it continues once pads are on.

I wanna see who our starting LT & LG are before even thinking of putting him on a regular-season field.

Agree 100% with this.
I don’t get it. They’re ridiculous for not having a plan when Brady leaves…then draft the next big thing and have a plan, to not throw the kid into the fire and let him earn it as he should…and it’s called ridiculous….which is it?
