Breer: Pats out on Robinson, considering an LT by committee approach? (Update: likely fake Reddit post)[3/19: signs w/Texans]

Vrabel is not going to allow the ****show that was last year to happen again. Some won’t like it but Campbell is the guy. He’s gonna start at LT and do a solid job. Need a solid starting C or LG and the OL will be massively better than last years failure.
Former First Rounder Cole Strange says hello.

That’s why I said C or LG
I get it you hated the pick at the time too. Strange got a year off: let's hope he pays dividends at one of those positions LG/C Contract Year for him. Let's hope Marrone can turn him around and into a First Round Player.

I think you're right. The internet makes it so much easier to keep up on news but it also makes it so much easier to get fooled by fake news.
Breer may have said something on the topic but his tweet was deleted.

My guess is Breer was fed BS by the team to put pressure on Robinson to negotiate a deal.

Never once said I hated the pick…maybe I thought it…maybe I wrote it on a napkin at the Waffle House…but I never said it. I truly want Strange to work out at one of those two spots. Would be a massive help. Because that also allows Sow (LG), Robinson (RG) and Wallace (RT) to be in backup roles at their natural positions.

I don’t think that’s Vrabels style.

When has that ever worked out, in any sport?

has to be fake news...

If not...
RB by committee is an almost must unless you have one those very few rare guys.

But I can't think of any other place in any of the sports where this actually works. I'm sure there's got to be other examples.

Anyways trying it on the Oline would seem like one of the worst places to try it. Way too much reliance on the continuity of the group. It seems so dumb it has almost has to be fake.

Siddy Sow disappointed me last year but I'll chalk up last year to the failed Mayo experiment.

Yeah, it definitely has the sound of a negotiating ploy.

ahh, I am just going to disagree, or offer up the notion that we have differing opinions of what "by committee" means in this instance... Different backs will have different roles... That's not a "by committee" approach...

Red Sox did it a few times... remember the halcyon days of "Closer by Committee"? that turned out well, dinnit? /s

1000% this

I used one of those tools to look at deleted posts and confirmed that this was the user that I was thinking of. Their posts range from bad faith concern trolling to flat out fabrication of quotes.

It would be weird that it ONLY got reported on Reddit.

The thing with Strange is that at this point we all know it was a little bit of a reach to go guard at that point. Despite McVay laughing there were reports of other teams with interest but that's not my point anyway. We know it was a bit of reach but at the time we had no starting left guard also not my point lol.

And now to finally get to the point he is probably our best linemen right now. It's at least close him, Onwenwu, and Moses are all legit starters in this league not sure any are stars. Moses was probably the best at one point but at 34 probably not right now. Onwenwu should be the best but I think Strange is slightly better.

I am fine with drafting mediocre LT with number 4. That is like a 15 million dollar a year player

So if no one gives Robinson what he wants and he lowers his price, the Pats could very well be back in. Obviously if someone was willing to pay him $15 million a year, he would be signed by now.

I definitely see your point the way we typically did it was probably more of a lead back with a change of pace back. EG Blount and Vareen or Blount and White. I would agree that's not necessarily a by committee approach that's different roles like you said.

But I do think other teams have gone the by committee approach. Maybe not the best example because I don't think it was by design but last year Rham and Gibson were kind of by committee. I'm sure if I thought harder there are actually plenty of real examples of two pretty good and similar backs splitting carries.

Edit: pretty sure the Steelers did it to help extend Bettis' shelf life.

Still a little puzzled why we didn't bring Robinson or Wills in: considering our Need at the position. Rookie Linemen are no grantee and Lowe is just not Good. Asking a Rookie Offensive Lineman or WR to start right off the bat have its challenges. I'm not saying we can't get lucky: but I would feel a little more comfortable with a guy like Robinson in the fold.
Robinson has a good track record but down the stretch last year he was honestly worse than Lowe. Willis has been as bad as Lowe for a while now, his draft status just gives perceived upside.

Not saying it'd be a bad idea to sign one or even both to add competition, but you're talking about how it's no guarantee and we'd need to get lucky for a rookie to be a good LT but truthfully the same thing applies to either of those signings.
