Inside the bubble
Posted by Albert Breer at 7:01 pm
Those who were planning to come to practice, heard it was closed to the public and stayed home didn’t miss much today. The workout was held in helmets — no shoulder pads or even shells — and was classified as a walkthrough.
The team started out working on punt block and kickoff, and then broke into offense and defense, with each side’s reserves serving as a scout team for the starters. From there, it basically looked like a big install session. Here are the few things we gathered:
– The PUP guys were there, en masse. Since it was a non-contact practice, they were allowed and each hovered around their group. It probably shouldn’t in anyway be considered encouraging or discouraging, since most of them did nothing but stand around. It’s more like just an opportunity to get guys who aren’t generally allowed on the practice field out there when this rare chance comes along.
– That said, one PUP-listed guy did jump in: Donte’ Stallworth. He didn’t run at all, but did come in and line up with the offense. Again, probably just a measure to involve a new guy and help him learn something in a way he’s not permitted to as long as he’s on that list.
– Fans who did show were allowed to watch the walkthrough on the jumbotron inside Gillette Stadium. Either those people just wanted to check the place out, or they’re really crazy about this team.
We’ll wrap the day up here in a minute with a few more notes.
