Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

Like you, I did consider the reports that he wanted to be traded and also how Josh viewed his compatibility regarding the offense. Even so, it was still a bad trade. Getting a 5th Round Pick is one thing, but having to send them a 7th Round one makes it just really lousy.
Why?

If you are trying to sell a car and all the prospective buyers in the market are telling you it's worth $15k but you think it's worth $20k, who is right?

Over-valuing an asset is bad business.

Self Harm fking again WTF

It's lost on me why he couldn't stick around as a 2nd or 3rd QB incase of injury unless we bring in say Trey Lance

Just another dumb move since Tom left

You can pick up this kind of pick for scratching your nose.. RIDICULOUS.

Unless it's got to do with the game v Bills then I'm all for this trade.

Shouldn’t we take the best deal instead of doing solids?
I'm not sure I believe the, "there were better deals but we thought about the player's wishes" line.

The pros thought that Brady was only worthy of the 199th pick.
The HOF is chock full of players at every position who the pros drafted after non-HOF players.
None of us know how most young players will turn out given the chance. They're all different.
The real freak out would come if Maye turns out to be a bust and Milton turns into a QB.
That's true.

It's not over-valuing. It's just a bad trade. I can deal with getting a 5th Rounder. But sending a 7th Rounder in return was stupid.

So we had a 6th rounder who balled out and cost us the 1 overall pick, but hey at least he's shown he can be a solid backup QB for us... but then we trade him for what amounts to the same as where we drafted him?! In one of the weakest QB drafts in years?? C'mon man...

With Drake having concussions year 1 - this is a ridiculous move. Just keep him if all you're going to get is a packet of magic beans. Josh Dobbs isn't winning you any football games if Drake goes down - he's awful.

Yes his value might be a 5th (I'd argue R3/4in this abysmal class) but then it's the mystery box situation. Sure we could keep our promising young backup, but let me give you this 5th round pick - it could be anything, a total bust OR EVEN a promising backup.

Happy he is gone. He might have some potential, but if he started camp doing pretty good things, the noise would be insane. Thank god.

Not sure why people are so miffed that they passed on a "better offer" (probably a 4th) to send him to his preferred destination. Is it worse for the team? Marginally so, yes, but it also buys some good will for the front office. Players on the roster or who sign to the roster in the future will appreciate this, knowing that the team isn't conducting cutthroat business and always taking only the very best offer even if the player hates it.
You do this for a solid veteran who has played several years for your team
Not for a one year qb3
Its nonsense

Basically traded him for a mulligan on having drafted him to begin with.

Disappointing but whatever.

They better not use a pick on a backup QB or this is a net loss. Sign a vet.

Rodgers anyone?

Rodgers. Hell no. But yeah, I would 100% expect them to draft a QB on day 3.

You think they could have done the deal without throwing in the 7th?

He was drafted in the 6th round. They got a 5th. His value appreciated and to close the deal they threw in a pick worth ~10 points or a player who has a 5% chance of making the Week 1 roster.

I knew the nonsense about a third was not going to happen but I don't know why you draft and develop him for a year only to trade him for a pick a round higher than you used to get him? A young, cheap, QB that you can potentially develop into a backup isn't

I honestly thought as we got closer to draft day one of the teams might’ve offered up a third or a fourth for him… He has great potential and hopefully this doesn’t come back to bite us

Has anyone, myself included, considered that Milton may not be able to run JMcDs offense fully? We all just assume he's gonna be legit after going against the Bills 3 string guys who were focused on the playoffs. Perhaps they determined he was not a good fit for the offense?

So they traded him to the cowboys out of respect despite a better offer? wtf
Depends on who the offer was from... The jete? The giants? I'd say **** those guys...
