Breakdown of Jimmy G

Remaining games on the 49ers schedule:

  • @Texans
  • Titans
  • Jaguars
  • @Rams
No offense to Jimmy, but if they go 3–1 down the stretch it'll be a near miracle. (Plus remember that they still have their first-round pick.)
It would be stunning if they beat the rams or jags. But it is the nfl. They can certainly beat the overrated titans

“To me, it’s like he really learned from Tom Brady,” running back Carlos Hyde said. “That’s what he reminded me of: just a young Tom Brady out there. How Brady is late in the game, where you give him like 30 seconds to go, yo, he can still win the game for his team.”

And that is why BB traded JG.

Old Tom Brady > young Tom Brady

If the 49ers franchise him in 2018, it would be interesting to see where he signs in 2019. It depends on many factors of course, and I'm not completely sold on him yet, but assuming BB stays around and TB retires or begins to decline . . . hmmm.

Garapolo vs Brisett upcoming....that should settle things once and for all.

I live in the Bay Area and haven’t had much of a reason to watch, or even care about, the Niners. Now that Jimmy is playing, I’ll be following, but not at the expense of the Pats of course.

Glad to see Pats alumni QBs do well personally, just not thrilled about a SF team W.
Hope the Clots get another couple Ws.

Actually, the two teams already played back in October. Colts won in overtime.

lol they should've made Jimmy the starter sooner.

After hearing that the Pats players and coaches reacted to JG's success on Sunday reminding me of exactly what JG's best attribute REALLY is. And that is his leadership qualities.

Go back to the post game of the Cardinal game ans see how the players respond to him. I'm sure it was the same in SF. JG will be a successful QB in the league because he has a fine set of physical skills, but so does Gino Smith. What elevates JG is that he is both an above average leader who's teammates will follow, and a student of the game. He was taught by the best and it shows.

Unfortunately he's gone because he wasn't the best QB on the team, and to get any value at all, he had to be traded. The timing of Brady's LACK of decline made it impossible to keep him, though lord they tried as long as they could.

I wish him the best, but NOT in these last 4 games. I WANT a pick in the 30's next April. I'm glad he did well, but Brady is still better and will be for at least the next 2 years.

That's a questionable comparison skills-wise, Ken. JG's skill set is far superior. But you're right that his leadership and smarts also set him apart.

Nice take, ken . agreed Tune

The reality seems to be Jimmy has that rarest of all commodities in NFL: being a franchise QB with face, poise, behaviour etc. that goes with it.

Despite not making a TD to me SF had the most fluid offence of the week and not many people outside SF can name their receivers.

I wouldn't worry about Pats 2nd pick though, ken. SF have a hard schedule playing @HOU and then 3 teams that are in the PO hunt. And even if Jimmy wins them all the pick will be just a few spots down and there is no difference between #34 and #38 except possibly a tiny bit in trade combinations.

So you can relax and enjoy some good QB-ing (so rare in this season). Im looking forward watching him vs Jags and Rams..

Garoppolo has an insanely quick release. He might have the quickest release of any quarterback in the NFL. That alone is a skill that can net you a long career, particularly when combined with a big arm and accuracy.

The breakdown story of Jimmy G:
Chapter 1 Title: the 49ers Won - Our Second Round Pick Moves 34th to 35th.
Chapter 2 Title: The 49ers Win Sunday - The Pick May Move To 39th.
Chapter 3 Title: WalterFootball draft pick value guide: 34th vs 39th 2nd round pick Difference Equivalent To A Late 4th Round Pick.
Epilogue: Every Patriot fan rooting for 2017 Jimmy to succeed shuns posting about Patriot draft picks.

JG starting his own record book..

Jimmy Garoppolo's 293 passing yards in last Sunday's comeback win over the Bears were the most of any player in his first start for the 49ers, according to Elias. That covers 44 different quarterbacks. - Reiss

He looks good out there despite not having a #1 receiver or good pass protection. Probably not possible but I kinda wish they'd have made the pick conditional- like a 2019 #1 instead of a 2018 #2 if Garoppolo has XYZ performance/starts XYZ number of games.

I want to see a Jimmy G VS Brady superbowl within the next 4 years. The hype for that game would be through the roof.
