Brady on Caldwell on SD's Opinion of the Pariots

What has Rivers done? Well, he's the first QB in history to lead an offense to 17-point comebacks two weeks in a row. He led this team to 5 fourth-quarter comebacks. He was either #1 or #2 (can't recall) in the NFL in 4th-quarter QB rating. He only threw 1 pick in the 4th quarter all year. And his stats are as good as or better than any other AFC QB that would have been in the running for the pro-bowl this year. Oh, and his team went 14-2.

Rivers is ranked #1 in the 4th quarter. Brady is right that the only bowl that matters is the Superbowl, but the Pro Bowl is not all farce. After all, 2/3 of the votes come from coaches and players themselves. Obviously Rivers' peers and the coaches feel that he is of that caliber and that's why he's there.

Heres where you lose that argument....

Michael Vick - "Pro bowl QB"....I rest my case. FARCE

I don't even watch the pro bowl.

Deep down you know this. If you had faith in your team, you wouldn't be over here desparately trying to convince us of how wrong we are.

Well put my friend, well put. The recent Charger troll infestation demonstrates one thing - they are deep down inside insecure of their chances of winning thus they feel the need to parade around before us pats fans, thump their chests, and declare they will be the winners. Quite frankly all this open display of insecurity is pathetic. I would have expected more from the Chargers fanbase but their rep is definitely suffering a hit from all their trolls.

Phew. I thought I was the only one who didn't watch that.

Haven't watched since Edwards got injured.

If you had to rank the all of the crappy NFC QB's (aside from Brees... he was born and bred in the AFC), a case can certainly be made for Vick being a "Pro Bowl QB"... but I think that speaks more to the crappy NFC than the Pro Bowl in and of itself.

Not this fan. I think very highly of that Patriots and they definitely are the team of the decade. I even like the Pats before Brady and Belicheck. What they've done is nothing short of amazing.

But I really feel that this season, the Chargers is the better team and should win this Sunday. With absolutely no disrespect to the Patriots, because you guys are very very good. It's just that we're better.

I wish there was more football talk than smack talk by the SD fans on here though. Before being invaded by SD fans (smack talking ones) many on this board were posting the only team they saw in the Pats way was SD. Then some SD fans come in here saying how the Pats don't stand a chance because SD has 61 sacks and 9 pro bowlers. It really got old...then it becomes a stat fest which both sides skew to thier liking.

This game comes down to turnovers. IMO. If the Pats take care of the ball they win if they don't SD wins. The Pats easily could have been 14-2 this year if they didn't turn the ball over 5 times in a couple of games. Heck they were driving for the tying score on the dolts when they turned the ball over for what? The 6th time or so? For the Pats to be in that game with the amount of turnovers they had I think proves they are even better than thier 12-4 record. SD is a complete team no doubt, playoff experience does mean something, it isn't and end all be all but it DOES help. Pats have tons of it and the Chargers have very little. Stats be damned though the niners beat the donks with nothing on the line for them and everything on the line for the donks...any given Sunday...lets play some football!

Oh that's just rich. And how do you explain the sudden tidal wave of Patriots fans on the Chargers boards urging us all not to understimate the power of Brady and Belichik?

Almost every position in the NFC is crappy...but Vick isn't remotely even a quality QB, team mate or anything of the sort. I could go on and on on how vick is a TEAM killer but he is at home watching the playoffs like ATL will be forever without a SB with him at QB. The only reason he is a starting QB is MARKETING. Plain and simple vick SUCKS as a QB he has no ability to read a defense and is a turnover machine....I watched several games this year and he is pathetic. Other teams QBs had "worse" years maybe but they had NO Talent around them.

If you took marketing money out of the equation not one single GM would have vick as thier starting QB....and last time I checked marketing $$$ wasn't part of the selection proccess for the "pro" bowl. Ron Mexico is a much more fitting name for vick as he is a disease on that ATL team...if Shaub was starting they would be in the playoffs.

I don't disagree with you. After all, we traded him away to pick Tomlinson.

This may come across as a little defensive, but the stats-based thread that I put up is nothing different than what I have done since 2003; it is just the first playoff season that I have posted on this board. No manipulation of numbers was done, nor was it necessary.

Clearly stats don't decide games, but they can certainly be used to determine relative strengths and weaknesses of teams. NE's own coach is one of the frontrunners in statistical analysis and applying it to teams, although I am sure that he looks into things about 10000000X more closely and precisely than I have.

Any given Sunday is always a rule, but that doesn't discount the educational use of (properly determined and applied) statistics.

I wasn't talking about your excellent analysis...THAT is pure football talk IMO...and a few bolts posters have put up some interesting "stats" that I didn't know...which I think is the purpose for having bolts posters on the main board rather than the interleague forum. It is the "pro bowl" BS and the "Rivers is better than Brady" 61 sacks stuff that gets me. The bolts had 61 sacks and that is impressive, but not as dominant as it would seem because of a weak secondary...which should be excellent with all the pressure SD is apparently getting on the QB. SOme have cherry picked "pro bowl" stats and claimed it is PROOF that SD can't lose. Honestly I think that is assinine. NOw properly research and written statistical analysis BACKING UP well thought out points IS fantastic! Several Pats posters and even a few SD posters have excellent stat driven posts. I didn't express myself clearly...I was venting on what I viewed as inane posts and included all stat posts and just ment the BS ones...and there are plently of them. I actually like the opinions backed up with some stats...then any rebuttal should include a valid point from SD fans rather than blatant trolling which I really have seen to much of this week.

I really liked SD and before reading some of the more idiotic post on thier "dynasty" WTF??? I would have rooted for them if they beat the Pats....now I'm not so sure....some better bolt fans have popped up recently but don't feel I will have to root for anybody but the Pats for this SB as I think I will be wearing my jersey on SB Sunday as I do every game the Pats play in...

My apologies. :eat3:

Who the **** says "thang"? Wow..

Some people say it... I just typed it.

Anyhoo... I haven't seen anyone post any substantive articles showing where there is such an open display of disrespect by the Chargers.

But that's alright. I'll just wait for you to reply with:
"Who the **** says "Anyhoo"?"

What has Rivers done? Well, he's the first QB in history to lead an offense to 17-point comebacks two weeks in a row.

I'm gonna go ahead and call bulsh!t on that one until there's some documentation. Hard to believe in 87 years of NFL football no quarterback ever accomplished this prior to Rivers.

From PR's Wikipedia: Philip Rivers

On November 12, 2006, Rivers had the best game of his short career and led the San Diego Chargers to an improbable comeback against the Cincinnati Bengals. Down 28-7 at Halftime, Rivers led the Chargers on six drives culminating in touchdowns. Rivers himself threw three touchdown passes, while LaDainian Tomlinson scored three of his four rushing touchdowns. San Diego outscored Cincinnati 42-13 in the second half winning the game 49-41. Then the very next week against a strong Denver Broncos defense, the Chargers became the first team in history to win back-to-back games after trailing by 17 or more points and also the first team to win four straight when allowing at least 24 points in each game. Rivers led several 4th quarter comebacks in 2006, and posted the league's highest 4th quarter quarterback rating. Rivers was selected to the 2007 NFL pro-bowl as recognition for his winning ways and comeback ability.

They picked Rivers so the AFCwould have someone to match up against Romo, just to make it fair.

Yeah, post merger. I'm talking about going back into the 20s, 30s and 40s.

I don't think they keep stats going that far back. Soooo.... guess he'll just have to be the first QB to do it. Hopefully those old no helmet-wearin' fogeys won't complain about it the way Deacon Jones complains that he should be the all-time sack leader.

The Pro-Bowl IS a farce. I don't care where 2/3 of the vote comes from. Its a popularity contest. Plain and simple.
