Nick Underhill @Nick_Underhill
I may be imagining things, but I’ve seen a few plays the last two weeks where Brady forced the ball somewhere else with Amendola open.

Ben Volin ? @BenVolin
@Nick_Underhill you are not imagining things

Two media members with All-22 access have picked up on this today. Could be interesting and something to watch going forward, or could just be a product of Brady going through his progressions and Amendola not getting open until he's late in his progression. If nothing else, it should be something of interest to watch, going forward.

This is a moot point and you already answered your own question / comment. Brady isn't intentionally looking away from Amendola. Amendola either didn't get open until after Brady looked his way on those plays or Brady threw the ball to an earlier progression based on the coverage and route run.

I find it hard to imagine Brady wouldn't throw to an open receiver.

Probably, I think Brady sees he's open but doesn't want to throw it to him because they had a fight at recess.

Either that or those two are just another couple of media clowns churning out garbage analysis for attention.

It wasn't so much as me answering my own question as it was raising a possible counter point. But, in the end, that's more than likely what it was. Just thought it was interesting to note and, for those of us with All-22 access, could be interesting to watch going forward. If Amendola isn't getting open quickly enough (and I know he's injured), that could hurt him in this offense as well as the offense as a whole.

"Who is Brady's favorite reciever?"

The open guy

Brady was under a big pass rush the whole game, even when they only rushed down linemen. I was impressed that he was getting the ball out well at all.

And here I thought Amendola caught the biggest pass of the game...

Boston media is a collection of narcissistic morons.

Brady loses faith in receivers. It's possible that's happened here.

Am I saying it's the case? No.

Am I noting it as a possibility? Yes.

Do I think it's likely, particularly given who Brady passed to for the winning TD on Sunday? No.

More than likely, IMO, there were other reasons (progressions and pressure, for example) for this happening.

You mean the last two weeks where Brady has thrown for 371 and 418 yards respectively against two of the better pass defenses in the league? And been 9 for 13 when targeting Amendola.

To nip this in the bud, the call for the game winning TD was a designed pass to Amendola.

If the implication of this is he doesn't trust Amendola no-way in hell is Brady running a rollout pass to Amendola for the game winning TD. Now I know they had 3 more chances to get it in if that play didn't work but that's the first play that was called.

If Brady had a problem with Amendola or wasn't confident he's probably audibling to something else on 1st and goal.

He should have thrown he Edelman TD to Amendola imo (although Edelman did get the penalty for unnecessary roughness)

I'm glad you pointed this out. I watched the game again last night and noticed a couple of occasions where Amendola had significant separation/was open. One in particular that sticks out is the all-Vereen TD drive - on the pass to Vereen that got them to first and goal yardage, Amendola appeared wide open in the end zone. It's not like it took a ton of a time to develop, but the Browns were bringing pressure and he didn't look his way at all, resulting in a quick checkdown pass.

Call it a hunch, but I think Amendola's going to emerge down the stretch and start justifying his price tag. He looks healthier, he certainly has the opportunity with Gronk down, and while we need all our WRs to step up, I think it's fair to say we need him to the most.

Because Brady has never forced the ball to Moss or Welker or Gronk in triple coverage at the expense of an open receiver any time in the past.

Amendola was wide open right away in the flat on this play. Brady did wait a second more for Edelman. I'm surprised Brady missed Amendola on this play since this was Brady's and Welker's favorite play.

The open guy

Once a truth, now a myth.
And for the past half dozen years...BINKY
And this year.......Trust

The open guy myth died a long time ago

On a high percentage out route (given the coverage) where Amendola could get open quickly. My concern is not that Brady doesn't trust him, because I don't think that's the case. My concern is whether or not Amendola is getting open quickly enough on other routes for quick strike passes that this offense typically thrives off of. If you ask me, give what was just reported, I think that might just be a legitimate concern.

Not comfortable with him is my guess....only explanation as Brady usually always finds the open guy

bottom line is this .. you can have the all 88 film .. we don't know, the media thinks they know, and will never know .. as to who is "wide open", who's assignment is what? .. Who "missed" a block? Unless you are a player, or coach on the team, you will never know ... .. the rest is hearsay, and speculation ..

This is the point though. When pressure's coming and you're about to get hit, you can't go through progressions.

Lot's of things going on here.

It could be that Brady expects him to be in one place based on coverage and Amendola is somewhere else. so Brady, continues through is progression.

Another possibility, Brady doesn't want to put his receiver in harm's way following a completion (something I'm sure Welker is missing about Brady at this time). :bricks:
